L.A. CA. - Precious little disabled Terrier (missing 1 foot + 1 is deformed) came into South L.A. Shelter emaciated, flea-infested, matted!

At the South L.A. shelter on Friday, one of the RVTs asked me if I would groom a little dog which had just come in.  This little girl had just been caught on the street by an officer, and was in the medical room.

The dog is the most adorable terrier--a norwich terrier/poodle lookalike--who is not only missing her right rear foot, her left back leg is deformed--possibly from an untreated break.   She was also very emaciated, matted all over her body, and had one of the worst flea infestations I've seen at the shelter...and I've seen some awful ones.

I can hardly bear to think what a terrible life this darling girl had been subjected to that she ended up in this condition.

The first thing I did was shave off her mats.  I was able to remove her coat almost in one piece quite quickly (thanx to Espree De-Tangler spray.)  It came off like I was shaving a sheep.

Her flea infestation was so bad, I had to use undiluted organic flea shampoo, and shampooed her twice.  You can see the blood oozing from the flea dirt in the attached photos.  Even when I rinsed her, dead fleas were still stuck all over her body.  All those black dots you can see on her body, head, face, etc., are all fleas.

All through this process, this baby was as good as gold.  She was really cooperative all the way: cleaning her filthy ears, cutting her horribly overgrown nails were no problem.   Despite all she's been through, she is really sweet and not scared of people.

She is just skin-and-bone.  And with her disability affecting both back legs, she is going to need to find a really special home.

Her impound number is A869998.  She is 4 years old and not yet spayed.  She is available on Wednesday, May 10th at 8am.

*BUT PLEASE ONLY RESCUE HER IF YOU CAN PUT HER DIRECTLY INTO A FOSTER HOME AFTER HER INITIAL VET EXAM.

PLEASE DO NOT TAKE HER IF YOU PLAN TO PUT HER IN BOARDING, WITH ONLY A WEEKLY TRIP TO ADOPTIONS.  THAT WOULD BE CRUEL.

THIS LITTLE GIRL DESERVES TONS OF TLC, AND SHE NEEDS IT AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE!
