Available for a limited time at the Paulding County Shelter. One male mix breed, medium size brown, was left with a rope tied to his neck at the front door out of the pound. He is a sweet dog and has some major wound on his neck area and beside the snout. It appears he was attacked by another animal. These wounds are old and there is massive infection. The pound is keeping him as comfortable as they can. We have him on pain meds and antibiotics. I dont think the antibiotics is going to help much - I think the wounds may need opened and drained. This is just a guess. The DW knows I am working on rescue for him. He will not get adopted locally. Can anyone help him? Pull fee is $25 and no vetting is done. I can get him to a vet and can transport one hour in any direction. Pull fee has been offe red to rescue that takes him Any takers? RICHMOND, Va. - Government testing of recalled pet food linked to
dog and cat deaths has found a chemical used to make plastics.

The Food and Drug Administration said it found melamine in samples
of the Menu Foods pet food, as well as in wheat gluten used as an
ingredient.

Cornell University scientists also have found the chemical, also
used as a fertilizer, in the urine and kidney of a sick cat.

Earlier results from a lab in New York had blamed a rodent poison
and cancer drug called aminopterin for the deaths.

PETA Wants Bigger Recall

Meanwhile, some animal rights advocates say a pet-food recall does
not go far enough.

The group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals called on the
government and pet food makers to expand the recall to include dry
varieties, too.

Nearly 100 brands of pet food were recalled after animals suffered
kidney failure. The recall involved "cuts and gravy" style dog and
cat food. Some major brands, including Iams, Nutro and Eukanuba,
were involved.

The Food and Drug Administration said it has no plans to suggest a
wider recall and veterinarians said they've seen no trend of dogs
and cats getting sick from eating dry food.

This little boy is so lucky to be alive!  He has suffered tremendously after being attacked by a Chow.   His name is "Trouper" and he's only a year old.

 

His entire hind area was ripped wide open, and he has many, many sutures around and under the base of his tail.  Can you IMAGINE THE PAIN and the terror he has suffered?

 

He is slowly recovering, and is being cared for at the St Martin Parish Animal Control facility in Martinville, Louisiana. 

 

The problem?  This is an Animal Control facility- they have NO FUNDS to cover Trouper's  $300 vet bill!!  To make matters worse, this little boy is heart worm positive!!  So, even more funds are needed to save his life!

 

PLEASE, won't you send a donation to help this boy?  He is homeless!!  He has nobody!  He's been through so much already- if we can all send in whatever we can to help- it will add up!

Blind dog in desparate need:

Tuffie, a 10 year old blind american  brittany spaniel mix, is in desparate need of help.  I have taken him in as a foster after the nursing home he was living in threatened to put him to sleep.  Unfortunately, he is not doing well here and we need to find him a home with no other dogs.  Here is his history - can you please help him?

Abandoned by his owner at a shelter when he was 7 years old and just going blind, he was not doing well with the other dogs at the shelter.  He is an aggressive alpha dog around other animals and after a few months at the shelter was sent to a foster home.  I don't know what happened in that home, but he was there for 10 months before being adopted to a nursing home as a companion for the residents.  He was at the nursing home for 3 months when they threatened to put him to sleep because he was bumping into residents due to his blindness and tripping them.  His original rescue refused to take him back.  At that point I was told that he was a loving calm dog who was 7 years old and had been living in a permanent home.  

 

Given that info, I thought he would fit in well here and agreed to take him in as a foster.  From that point, he was in 4 different temporary homes in one week before coming to me.   Arriving here he was completely terrified and very aggressive with  my dogs.  I kept him separated from my dogs while trying to get him calm and situated.  He was more like a shelter dog when I got him.  I took him to my vet and found that he was 10 and not 7, that he was allergic to the eye drops he had been getting for months, he had infections in both eyes, is at least 20 pounds overweight, arthritic, and in need of constant drops.  

 

Now that he has stabilized, he looks a lot better and is feeling healthier. Once he was comfortable with me and my husband, re-introduced him to our larger dog outside in a neutral environment. He snapped at him but seemed to settle down.  Later, he got too close again and went after our larger dog.  My husband tried to separate them and Tuffie bit my husband really badly.  He is not a dog that can be around other dogs, and cannot be around our small Pomeranian as he could kill her accidntally.   He is very loving and sweet with people though and wants to be with you constantly.  He LOVES to walk and with the combination of diet food and no more people food, he should be much healthier quickly.  Due to his blindness, he has separation anxiety when you leave him - this is making his current environment detrimental to him as we have to keep him separate from our living environment with our dogs.

Can someone please foster this dog?  He deserves better than the life he has been given.  Based on his aggressiveness in our house, he will need to be moved to another home ASAP.   If we are unable to relocate him to a safer place by April 30, we will have to place him with our local shelter. 

 

Please, can you assist us in this effort?  Tuffie deserves much better than what we are able to offer as foster parents...

Shreveport LA: 2 mini schnauzer seniors.. one deaf and blind dumped by their family need out of shelter

It says these to are heartworm positive but they think it should read
heartworm negative. The shelter manager is not there for them to verify.

My name is Jeri Holloway, Shreveport, La., 318-869-2157. I work with local
rescue groups and the pound, a kill shelter, to find places of safe haven
for purebreds at risk of having to be destroyed.

These two miniature schnauzers have been at the pound since Feb. Several
places I wrote then replied back, oh these aren't minis; write the standard
folks; the standards did the same, these aren't standards. (after photos
were sent) I knew they were minis and I finally have measurements and
weights. I pray you will be able to help them.

Tish is a white mini schnauzer, heartworm positive, housebroken, blind,
deaf, and sweet as all get out, around 13 years old. Their coats are clipped
and clean. She is 12 1/2 inches tall and weighs 13 lbs.

Precious is black, heartworm positive, housebroken, 10 years old. She stands
14 inches tall and weighs a chunky 17 lbs. She is so friendly and loving.

Both were brought in by owners; one because they got a new dog, so out with
the old. The other because the dog was just too old to keep any longer.

They are now caged together and get along just great. But they are still
wonderful little dogs that deserve to live out their lives with schnauzer
folks who will love and adore them. When I took the new photos yesterday,
they trotted down the hallways just big as you please. Tish is very mellow,
she doesn't jump with fear due to her blindness and deafness. They are
absolutely adorable.

There is a person in Shreveport who is willing to pay their travel expenses
to send them to wherever we can find for them to settle in.

The kennel manager at Caddo Animal Services, Shreveport, where they are, is
Annette Lewis, 318-226-6624. If you need additional information call her and
if she is not there, ask for Avery. (Annette's son was in a tragic auto
crash and she has been spending most of her time at the hospital since last
week, he is in critical condition.) That is why you may not be able to reach
her, thus Avery should be able to help you. If you call, please tell them
that Jeri sent you the photos of the dogs and contacted you.

If you are unable to help these two babies, could you refer me to anyone
else who might?

I pray you can help them, especially since they have been at the pound so
long now. When I first met them in Feb. and took photos, Precious was quiet
then after I began petting her, she began wagging her little tail and
rubbing her head in my chest. This is so hard for little dogs that have been
in homes all their lives to suddenly be in a pound in a cage with so many
strange smells and noises.

Hello everyone. I have been doing pit bull rescue for a little over a
year now, and due to some major issues with my personal situation, I
can't continue to foster or do rescue right now.

I have 2 pit bull puppies looking for GOOD homes. Vet check and home
visit will be required! Both dogs are fully vetted and ready to go.

Red is about 6 months old, maybe a little younger, and is a petite
little guy. He loves people and kids, and thus far dogs. He has a
high prey drive, though, so I would be wary with cats. He will stay
in his crate, but he hates it. He is mostly housebroken, and knows
some manners. He needs to be kept occupied, but will make a great dog
for an active family.

Beethoven is 6 months old and is deaf, but that doesn't slow him down
any. He has THE BEST temperament ever, and loves everyone and
everything. He adores kids, but since he's so big, they don't like it
when they get knocked over by him. He is learning hand signals, is
crate trained, and walks well on a leash. He does pretty good on
pottying outside, but he is not left loose in the house for long
periods of time.

I am asking $75 adoption fees to try to recoup some of the money I

I'd like to share a little tale (tail!) with you. Donny and Diane are an engaged couple who visit the park as often as they can with Madison, their dog. She's a sort of chocolate lab mutt, so very pretty and full of life and energy and Donny and Diane and a close friend of theirs fill this little girls life with love and affection every moment that they can.

Unfortunately her life hasn't always been like this. Madison was brutally abused and on the day Donna met her, she was scheduled for termination the very next day by her owners. Donny was delivering Chinese food to them when he saw her and fell in love with her beautiful (but pleading for help) eyes. The owners had let their children ride around on her, kicking her when she tired and they beat her so badly that eventually the severed a nerve in her back and her back legs became paralyzed. They bring her to the park and she is so happy, she tries to run but it's such hard work for her and her front legs are becoming weaker and damaged because of all the strain. On top of this, she has arthritis and the regular medication she has to take every day takes up most of their spare cash.

She is only 4 and should have a long and happy life ahead of her. I spoke to Donny yesterday as they held her up by her tail so she could try to walk around the park and asked him if he had considered pet wheels. He has looked into it but they will cost from around $450 up to $550 and being on a low income has meant that poor Madison has been denied this simple and yet life changing apparatus.

I would like to make an appeal to everyone on your email list to help me in acquiring a 'set of wheels' for Madison. 50 people with 10 bucks or 100 people with 5 bucks... whatever, every dollar counts. I am donating $50 to start this ball rolling and I have already been promised donations by friends here at the park and at Dog Wood too.

and her son brought in an 18 year old chocolate neutered male Chihuahua in
good health and sweet but he is blind and deaf. They wanted him put to sleep
because the elderly woman could not take care of him anymore, and the son

GEORGIA - "RAINY" - injured 5 month old Boxer/Bulldog pup needs a home !!!

This is going to sound like an episode of Jerry
Springer but it's not. I'm not even sure how to
begin.
I was on the way to a night class last week when it
was pouring rain. I drove around a puppy in the
middle of the lane of traffic. It looked dead. Out of the
corner of my eye I saw it move it's little paw.
Horrified I turned around. Another car went screaming
around it & it moved again. In the pounding rain I
pulled over & walked up to it. It then picked itself
up by the front paws & drug it's body to the side of
the road and collapsed.

It was raining so hard I couldn't believe that the
fireman who drove by saw me wave my reflective car
sun screen. He turned around to help. He carefully
picked up the little guy & placed him onto my instant
"stretcher" and into the back of my car. Knowing it
wouldn't live all the way to the emergency vet I
called our vet & gave them the heads up. I called
Claire to start praying for us as I drove.

The vet staff took the puppy from my car for me & I
just wept feeling so bad for the little guy. Left
for dead with all manner of traffic (me included) going
around him. They said he had a broken leg but it
could be fixed. They asked me if I wanted to put him down
or try to save him. I did what I would have wanted
somebody to do for my dog if he were laying there -
so $1,700 later (& one po'd hubby) the puppy came
through.

I picked up "Rainy" to take him home for rehab. I
had a hunch where he might have come from so I stopped
at this home. "Rufus!" the woman cried. So I found the
owner. I offered to nurse him for a couple of weeks
& return him home. She said she didn't have the money
to pay me & I told her it was OK, I was just glad we
found the owner. While I was there two boxers on the
front porch were mating. They said there were 10
pups the last litter. Hmmm...

"Brenda" (not her real name) said she was in between
homes & was just staying here with her mom until her
trailer became available. She said Rufus was her
son's dog, that he had been staying "with friends the past
week and a half". She said her place wouldn't have
any traffic. I brought Rufus Rainy home & my old BIG dog
went nuts. He cried & whimpered & slammed himself
against the garage door. Then he commenced to
marking all of the furniture. I called Brenda & she arrived
in 15 minutes to take him home, assuring me that she
could & would care for him. My husband laid down the
law with me that we cannot have another dog. He is
traveling on his job & Ivan is a LOT of trouble
while traveling. He is #90 and NOT friendly to strangers
coming into the yard so we always have to board him.

Brenda made & missed 3 appointments at the vet to
get Rainy's stitches out. Her appointment was paid for
(included in the price of the surgery) but she never
showed. Each time I called her I felt more and more
uncomfortable. She sounded impaired. Sometimes her
speech was slurred. Sometimes the things she said
were in-congruent with reality (once she said the vet told
her to give the puppy chicken soup!)

Today I called her & picked her and Rainy up and
took them to the vet. The puppy had lost 5 pounds!! - it
was starving. In addition, the sister who also lived
there had let it out today by accident. In the car
Brenda told me the sad story of what was going on
with her. Here's the Jerry Springer part. Brenda's sister
was staying in a house in the back & got busted for
meth. The police wanted to drug test everybody on
the property. Brenda tested positive to which she said
she has prescription diet pills that turned her drug
screen bad. The department of family and children's
services took ALL the children - including Brenda's
13, 15 & 17 year old. Her 15 year old just had
twins.
Brenda says she conceived at age 14 & she didn't
know she was pregnant until she was 7 mos. along. Brenda
is facing charges related to statutory rape of her 14
year old. Brenda has not worked "for months" and is
started a job at a fast food chain & moving into a
trailer. She will face a judge tomorrow to find out
if she gets incarcerated or gets the kids back.

And the puppy? The vet is holding it for 7 days - my
tab - to "get weight on him," essentially saving
it's life again. He needs a loving home. If he goes back
to this family, I fear we have saved him for a worse
death.

He is a boxer/ bulldog mix, very sweet & gentle,
about 5 months old & will be about #50 at full growth. His
features are very petite, so I'm not even sure he'll
be that big. It's mother is very attractive and
sweet.

Rainy had a compound fracture of his back leg. His
surgery required an internal pin & he is on
antibiotics. He sustained a stable fracture of one
of his vertebrae but is expected to heal without
problems there. He may have a slight limp but is a puppy and is expected to
have a normal life otherwise. During
his recovery he will need to be crated (I can provide)
and absolutely no jumping or rough housing with other
dogs. He is so sweet, he just turns over & shows his
belly when he is petted.

for Brenda. If you or someone you know can give a
home to Rainy, please email me. Hubby has told me because of the dangerous
grounds this family lives on that I
can not have any further contact with Brenda or her
family.

I voted my conscience. If you are able to take on a
puppy for rehab, I'll do everything I can to make it
happen.

Zanesville, Ohio - URGENT! - Two pups with Broken Legs are being put down

At the Zanesville, OH Animal Shelter: Jolt and Shy are both 4 month old
pups (not littermates) that have broken hind legs. More information is below,
but both are going to require surgery and plates in their legs. They have had
xrays to prove this. They are scheduled to be euthanized next week.

Shy 17415
Shy is 4 months old and weighs 25.1 pounds. He was given the name Shy for
obvious reasons. He is a shy boy. He is calm and lovable. He likes kids, and
he also loves to play. We believe that Shy was abused, he becomes attached
quickly. Shy is also in a foster home due to a broken leg. He is in
desperate need of a good home where he can get the proper care and love that he
needs.

Jolt is a 4 month old Lab mix. He weighs 22.9 pounds. He is very lovable,

toy poodle needs wheelchair

my 10 month old male toy poodle needs a wheelchair. he is having his
right back leg amputated the day after tomorrow. his left leg is
suffering some knee problems and he may be developing the same disease
in that hip which is causing him to lose his right leg. my medical
bills are astounding. i just don't think i can afford a wheelchair on
top of his ongoing medical bills. does anyone have a used one that i
could buy inexpensively? also is using the bathroom going to be an
issue with a wheelchair? i have no experience here and need any ideas
or infor you can give me. thanks

Jan says: "The state police called about a large beagle that had been hit by a car on I-64. A couple said he was lying in the middle of the road and unable to get up. They stopped and picked him up and took him to the state police, who then called me. Both his left legs are broken and I'll know Monday if his rear leg can be repaired with pins, or needs to be amputated. Hopefully the front leg can be repaired with a splint."

**I am so grateful these kind people stopped in their travels to pick Hoppy up, and got him to the state police! No telling how many people drove right by and never gave a second glance at this poor suffering creature.**

Critter Crossings Needs Emergency Funds for Surgery, Diva, 3 month old Pit Mix

Darling pit puppy with fracture of distal left humerus involving elbow joint. Will need surgery. It looks like it just happened within the last two days. Owner surrendered because they could not afford repair. Puppy can be picked up Now and we have x-rays available.

She was dropped off at the shelter by her owners who could not afford her care, we were contacted on Friday afternoon. One of our volunteers left our Dog Walk Fundraiser early on Saturday to drive to Orange County before the shelter closed.

She arrived here on Saturday night, apparently in pain from a leg that was broken on either Wednesday or Thursday prior to being dumped at the shelter.

Off to our vet she went on Monday morning but our vet could only administer medication to ease her pain with a recommendation to see a specialist, which she did this afternoon thanks to another volunteer who just dropped her off in West Los Angeles.

A lady I know picked up a dog on the side of the road she thought was
dead, only to her suprise he was still alive. She took him to the vet and
found out he had a broken back. She can't afford a specialist but has been
doing some homeopathic stuff and the dog is starting to use one of his back
legs now. The women is now mentally unstable and is threatening to euthanize
him because she can't deal with him anymore.

This is a little pomeranian mix, ver loving and sweet, and believe it
or not a happy little boy. Her worker made him a cart out of pieces of a
broken stroller, and he gets around, but it is breaking and could really
benifit from a real cart for dogs. The vet has seen and believes he will in
time regain the use of his legs and walk again. He is only 1-2 years old and
they named him scooter. If anyone knows any dog rescue people I can plead
with please let me know asap! She is very unstable so time is of the
essence!!!!

This girl is so sweet and gentle I cannot believe she

I have known Jim for 2 years now, he has helped out a lot in the community of Hawthorne, (Los Angeles) CA. He used to volunteer his time as a commentator at the local High School Football games. He now receives free tickets to sports games and Circus' performances, that he gives out to the children in the neighborhood.

Due to his disability and the fact that the trailer park he lives in, will be closed down shortly, Jim has been accepted into an assisted living program. They will allow him to take his little dog Tiger under certain conditions.

THIS IS WHERE WE NEED YOUR HELP: Tiger has never been walked on a leash, he pees and poops inside the trailer, he is not very socialized with people (he only loves Jim), he is not neutered and never had a bath!

Adorable 1 year old Dachshund X with healed broken foot South Los Angeles Shelter

This sweet, young Dachshund X has a front foot that was severely broken and went untreated until it healed. It is now longer than the other foot. Some might turn away from this because she is not "perfect" but some might be drawn to the fact that this dog, just one year old, has suffered so much in her short life and might want to see that she never suffers again.
It is to those people that I write this; she is such an adorable young dog. She has these gentle brown eyes that want to please so much; she loved the little treats I gave her and she took them so daintily from my hand. She had the most beautiful, perfect little face and we all laughed when she poked her head out of her cage and turned to look at the dog in the cage next to her.
She is just a baby still and so helpless. Please rescue her and make sure she gets the forever home she so deserves.

Amazing Grace is such a sweet, pretty young cat. She does everything cats do. She loves her dry and canned food, chases and catches the feather wand toy, uses the turbo scratcher, and her litter box. She likes to hear you talk to her, be petted, and she shows her affection by gently touching your hand with her mouth.
What is totally amazing about her is that she is completely BLIND! GRACE SEES WITH HER HEART! Someone abandoned her which was a mean thing to do, and the large shelter that took her in thought she might be overlooked due to her blindness. Helping Paws was glad to assist, and her foster mother says she is a wonderful cat. Within a few minutes in her large 6 ft by 6 ft enclosure, she knew where the food and water bowls were, her toys, scratcher, bed and litter box. She climbs up on the 3 wooden perches all the way to the highest one and takes a nap. Grace knows when the other cats come up to visit her and her hearing is very acute. She does not hiss or growl at any of them. Grace is Leuk/FIV negative, vaccinated, wormed and spayed.
We want a loving, permanent home with someone who will be with Grace a lot, because she does like human company. Grace is fine with one or two mellow cats. Vet references required please. Call 860-434-4328.

Janet brought Wyatt to the vet this afternoon so he is out of the shelter! He will have his surgery tomorrow morning at 8:45am. They will neuter him while he's under so he won't have to endure another surgery and bout under anesthesia later. He will be picked up Friday morning by his foster Dad.

We have also been applying for some financial help with groups set up to help with medical care for injured shelter animals.

Norcross, GA. - 3 legged abandoned cat!

I as looking at a house in Norcross for sale, and was greeted by a cat on the back porch. He has 3 legs, and has been living at this vacant house for a while now.
Apparently the people that moved used to feed him. and was just a "neighborhood" cat.

Well now they have moved to Texas, and poor Buster (apparently that is his name) is out in the cold, and has no one to care for him. Between myself and the realtors going in and out of the house, he has been getting some food and water, but not a regularly as he should. He also has NO shelter! I think he is a little bit older cat, and he only has 3 legs. He has grey and white short hair. He seems very healthy and is SUPER FRIENDLY!
If someone out there can foster him, I will get him completely vetted! I'm begging PLEASE help get this guy out of the cold!! I can take some pictures and send soon if anyone is interested.

My name is Deborah Herrera and I have a male Boxer by the name Moro.  I love my dog so much that it hurts me seeing him with a tumor on the side of his ribs. 

 

Moro is seven years old and he is a healthy happy energetic dog that I know of, but my problem is that I do not have the finance to cover the expenses due to the fact that I am a full time student at Santa Monica College.  

 

Fox Hills Animal Hospital would be the place my dog would get the surgery.  His tumor has grown rapidly and it hurts me because I wish I had the money to do it.  The Vet. estimated that the cost would come up to $500 and up.  I have saved some but not that much and I don't see how I would do it. 

 

Moro is my best friend I have had him since he was a puppy.  He means so much to me because I saved my own money as a child to buy him.  Moro had a surgery in the past with the same condition, and I paid it at first, but now it seems too hard because I don't have a job and I have a single parent.  

 

I don't want to put him to sleep now because he is still the happiest dog and he makes me happy every time I come home from school.  Please I am going through hardships at this moment and I wouldn't want to lose my best friend.

A sad case at the shelter...Daniel. Daniel's story with animal control starts approximately a year ago. Last summer I received a call about a pack of dogs at a house in a small community in the county. In the pack of dogs was a beautiful blue eyed coonhound mix. This boy who I have named "Daniel" was among the smartest and quick witted boys in the pack. As the other members of the pack were trapped or captured one by one, Daniel always figured a way to outsmart me.

Over the last year I have been told many stories about Daniel. Residents in the small community report Daniel has been around for many years...up to 4-5 years. Not one person ever told me where they thought he belonged or knew anything about his history.


Stories were told of how Daniel sits on the street corners and wanders from yard to yard searching for scraps or kibble belonging to owned dogs. Stories were told of how people would chase him off time after time often sending their kids on bikes to chase him away. Daniel always came back. Stories were told of how Daniel would come back and sit across the street or at the edge of the yards and watch people play with their own dogs. Stories were told about citizens that have tried to catch him and some that stated they have tried to kill him using poison...some said they have shot at him. Stories were also told by kind citizens that tried to win his trust to make friends with him to take him in and give him a home or help. Stories were told about how Daniel has been seen wandering all over the town even into parts of the county far away.

Our county ordinance clears states that any dog that is at large that cannot be trapped or captured humanely, has to be destroyed by gunshot. I was determined not to have this dog destroyed. Finally on Saturday we along with several local citizens were able to dart Daniel and trail him. Of course Daniel didn't give up. Running to some familiar place that he might have called "home" Daniel was spotted and picked up. On Sunday morning after the drugs have worn off Daniel was not a happy camper. Daniel growled harshly to let us know he was not happy with his predicament. We were at first very concerned about his future since he has been basically a feral dog for many years. We wondered if he could ever learn to trust the very thing he feared most..people. We had a small very small break through on Sunday afternoon. We realized that Daniel was bluffing. Calling him on his bluff I entered his kennel to take pictures, change his water, give him more food and take pictures. As I was milling about and speaking to him softly he gently wagged his tail ever so slightly several times. When I "got" him doing this he stopped and looked at me as to say... "I wasn't wagging my tail..me...not me". I think that with time he might learn to trust people that treat him kindly and with respect.

Daniel appears to be about 6-7 years old...just a wild guess. His teeth are in pretty good shape. He is about 45 pound, but needs to gain weight of course. He appears that he is a Walker Coonhound mix. He has very beautiful blue eyes. Daniel also has a cyst on his neck. It is not hard or attached to the muscle. It feels like fluid filled sack. Local citizens have reported that every since he has been around he has had the cyst. Daniel needs to be seen by a vet and desperately needs a place to go.

Here are pictures of Spud. his femur in his back right leg is what is
broken. if it is a clean break with neuter would be around $150 to
$200. If it is a fragmented or splinted break which would need a
plate, pens, and neuter, it would be around $500.00.

I should know more on monday or tuesday. I do have a wonderful pit
rescue Measles Animal Haven who has lots of foster homes and
volunteers willing to take him. They just don't have funds to fix the
leg. I personally know Robin the director of the rescue. They are so
great with pit bulls. She has rescued several from us.

So if we can get some funds raised to help this boy, then she would
be able to take him.

I know the home he came from had kids (ages 7 and up), loves other
dogs, loves cats too much. owner said, she was not sure if he would
really hurt one but might since he is strong and a pup. he has been
mr. happy go lucky at the shelter.

As for surgery, it will be done if funds are raised at VCA Sawmill in
Columbus. I am going to ask them if they will set up an account for
us for him so folks who want to donate could by credit card to them.

TX, Houston: Two special-needs cats needing homes right away

Can somone help this man with taking in or placing these cats right
away? They were strays that he nursed back to health.

He has a very ill brother coming to live with him and the cats would
aggravate the brother's health problems. He only has a couple of days
to find a place for them. He has tried in the past to find homes for
them, but now he is really pressed for time to do so.

Debra, thanks for your response. my brother is coming
here sometime in the next 10 days. Your list is
overwhelming. I have contacted many on the first two
pages at least once in the past year. Some I left
messages and they never called back. One had a message
not to ask about leaving a cat. Many said they had all
the cats they could care for, like your situation right
now. I have left adoption notes at about 4 vets offices.
my vet has asked several agencies for me. Part of my
problem is I work about 90 hours per week. I just got in
at 4:30 AM this morning and I'm leaving in about 30
minutes and will be gone until about 3 AM tomorrow.

My intent with these cats when my son first found them
was to get them healthy and then find a nice home for
them. I have been "fostering" them for two years. I am
not even a cat person obviously because of my life-long
allergies to them. I really like them but simply can no
longer keep them.

I am so serious about my brother's health and preventing
him from sneezing, I am having 2700 sq.ft. of wall to
wall carpet ripped out Monday and ceramic tile
installed. But, to keep the cats even after the carpet
is gone would severely defeat the purpose of removing
the carpet in the first place. Bottom line, my brother's
health means too much to me to see it jeopardized by
keeping the cats no matter how much I like them. I have
always had the option of the SPCA, and they told me
right up front they would put the cats to sleep within
24 hours of being dropped off because no one visiting
them would be willing to adopt an adult male cat with
either a hearing or vision problem.

We all have to go to that "litter box in the sky". I
have done my best to place them but just can't devote
the energy most people could because I work so much. I
will pay dearly to see them placed in a loving home, but

My long time owner recently passed and I was so distraught about it that I tried to jump thru a hole in a fence and got caught in it and gave myself a big gash in my abdomen. It's no wonder that I didn't fit as I'm a biggun' at around 80 pounds or so. That's the only reason they call me a Lab-Mastiff mix, because I'm jumbo-sized. I don't really have a jumbo personality though and actually seem pretty low-key and just major-league bummed out most of the time. I seem to be fine around any other critters I meet and am okay with you people types once I know that you are my official scratcher and buddy. I'm an older dude at around at least 8 or 9 years old and still healing up from my injury but I should be just fine. Come on down and meet me today if you are looking for a calm and loving older companion.

This sweet boy was hit by a car friday night and is in urgent need of medical attention. If you can help save this boy please contact the shelter immediately.
I was not able to tell what type of injuries he has as I didn't want to hurt him anymore than he already is. He is very scared.
The shelter doesn't have funding for vet care. This is his only chance.



This is a wonderful shelter and one of the cleanest I have ever been in.
Please help them out and adopt or rescue from them today.
They are very rescue friendly. Remember if you see a pet you like
contact the shelter immediately or better yet just show up before it's
too late. This shelter receives so many animals every week it is
unbelievable.
An unfortunate cause to those who don't spay or neuter their pets.

The Georgia Partnership for Caring is asking for your help with a truly "special needs" dog.

As many of you will remember, an urgent email went several weeks ago about an extremely emaciated dog at the Murray County Animal Shelter in Chatsworth, GA that had been abandoned and left to starve to death when the owner was taken to a nursing home.

GPA agreed to take Faith (as she was named). They discovered she has motor skill impairment, spatial distortion (i.e., does not always realize how close or far objects are) and is blind in one eye. Occasionally, she falls or bumps into walls. YET, at the same time…and this is important!!…she does not seem to be in any distress, wags her tail quite a bit, and loves attention. Everyone who has worked with her falls in love with her and thinks she is very sweet!!!

She also has begun to gain her weight back again.

GPA's volunteer veterinarian took Faith to the Georgia Veterinary Specialists Clinic for an evaluation by a neurologist veterinarian . He concluded that she has a significant brain injury, but is uncertain of its cause. He's not sure if her condition will get better, worse or stay the same.

The GPA folks believe Faith has gotten better since she first came in. She seems to walk more easily, and even has begun to climb stairs.

Because she is such a sweet and precious girl, GPA would like to find Faith an adoptive home. Clearly, the potential adopter(s) needs to have both a huge heart as well as a realistic understanding of what it will be like to care for this sweet, disabled dog for her entire life.

She can probably be placed in a home with a passive/submissive dog, but should not go into a home with a more aggressive dog, cats or small children.

Many people responded to the original plea for help for this dog, and we are now asking for your assistance .

Second, financial donations for her care would be greatly appreciated. Thus far, her vet care has exceeded $1,000, which has seriously impacted GPA's limited funds that are needed to care for their other animals. (GPA is a very new organization and has yet to build a significant financial base.)
