McMinnville, TN - DEAF Male Dal URGENTLY needs help!

This handsome boy was pulled by an independent rescuer named Linda Greene in TN.  Pongo is DEAF and is not doing well in his current foster environment.  He is living outside with quite a few other dogs.  He has been there since the  end of April and did great for the first 6 weeks.  He has seemed to get more and more upset being there and just started acting out with 3 of the other dogs.  Pongo has been fine with the others.

Pongo is about 1 year old, neutered, up to date on shots, hw negative and on prevention.  He seems to be having more and more trouble in the current environment.  Linda feels Pongo would do fine in a home environment with just 1 or 2 other dogs and with someone who could work with his deafness.  He seems to be very unhappy outside and uneasy with so many other dogs.  Has to be hard being deaf, being outside all the time, and being "on guard" with so many other dogs.

Can anyone give this handsome deaf boy a chance or atleast get him and evaluate him in another environment?

Linda's contact info is:  labluvr0003@yahoo.com  (labluvr0003 @ yahoo.com)

Thanks.

4 week old Leonard is BLIND, has an ENLARGED HEART, Donations needed for medical care.

Leonardo is pronounced, "lay oh NAHR doh".

We received a call from a man who lives in the country near Clyde, Ohio, and he said one of his outside cats had a blind kitten, and a local veterinarian suggested he call S.P.A..

I gave him information about our low cost spay and neuter program after hearing that there are often kittens being born outside there, and he said he wasn't concerned about them, that they either found homes or weren't a problem (you know what that means).

This little, blind 4 week old kitten was OUTSIDE, and when I asked him to bring him inside where the kitten would be safe he made it clear that that wasn't going to happen.

He said he was leaving town for a few days, and he MAY email me a photo when he returned. I was very concerned the kitten would be dead by then.

Even though we are very low on money and maxed out with foster animals, I called the other members of S.P.A. and they agreed that we had to take this kitten. The kitten was taken to Fremont Animal Hospital.

His eyes are shriveled up under his eyelids, and he is indeed TOTALLY blind. He is missing most of his tail and has a very bad heart murmur. Doctor Alexander suggested an X-ray.

Upon evaluation, the doctor said that it looks like the left side of his heart is quite enlarged, and he suggested we take him to OSU College of Veterinary Medicine so a cardiologist can make recommendations.

The problem is that will be a very expensive visit.
We are hoping to raise donations that will enable us to get Leonard to OSU as soon as possible.

Donations can be made online
through S.P.A.'s Paypal Account at:
www.spaohio.org.

Or, Donations can be mailed to:
Leonard's Heart Fund
P.O. Box 1047
Fremont, OH 43420

Leonardo is currently at Fremont Animal Hospital. We hope to be able to get him in to OSU College of Veterinary Medicine as soon as possible.

Thanks for your donation and/or prayers. This poor little guy is so darned sweet, but he is spunky! That is why I named him Leonardo, meaning Brave Lion.

TN - Minnie, CUTE kitten, needs rescue/home ASAP.

Please click the following link to read about Minnie and see her pictures:
http://ucat.us/Minnie.html

Minnie is a sweet and playful 3-4 month old kitten who was born with no bowel control. She does not require assistance to relieve herself, but she also can't control WHEN she does it. She does TRY to use her litterbox if she feels it coming on, and uses it very good for urinating. She is very happy, healthy, and cute as a button. She was left at her vet's office to be euthanised, but her vet feels she deserves a HOME! She is very happy, and lives a GREAT quality of life. Please take a few moments to read more about her on her webpage, and consider offering her a home, where she can play and do everything any normal kitten would do!

Atlanta GA: Dori the crossed eye kitty with emotional problems needs home FAST

If you can open your heart and home to Dori, Please contact  Barbara at: (631) 261-4321  or blowe@optonline.net

Little bio on Dori. Came to me via the Washington shelter (she helped NEGAS when they got over run with cats) she came with 4 kittens who were not hers and was a bag of bones. When I saw her at the shelter, I told them that I would be back for her, the crossed eyes are great! She raised the kittens, and is now spayed and hanging here. She does not seem to understand that her tail is hers and that is why it is always following her. She attacks it viciously and fights with it most of the night. It is looking pretty ratty at the moment. Her coat and weight look good, she is still a little skittish, I just do not think she can focus and can not see that there is only one of you coming to pet her. I am not sure what to do with her at this point, and need someone who has the time, resources, and money to figure out what is best for her. She is a doll.

Dori loves people but hates her tail. thinks it's something evil on this earth to torment her.
chases it if she notices it following her.
she is fully vetted.

Becky,

The cats are located in the Atlanta metro area. They are inundated down there with cats and kittens and any "unadoptables" don't have much chance - so I know she's desperate to place any she can.

Email: lhs@libertyhumane.org

An active 5 years old, Boogie is in the prime of his life. In addition,
despite being a shepherd mix, he is just 38 lbs.

He may seem a little shy and hesitant in new situations. However, that
is only because Boogie is blind. (Since he was picked up as a stray, it
goes without saying that this dog is pretty resourceful).

Don't feel sorry for him or write him off as too much labor...Since dogs
rely more on scent and sound, blindness isn't as big deal to him as it
might be to a human and many blind humans manage just fine.

Like Tina Turner sings in "Proud Mary", he just needs to take things
nice, slow and easy when you start walks. Let him get his bearings by
touching you ever so slightly. Once he gets a feel for where he is, you
can take things up a few notches:-)! Boogie is also very affectionate
and outgoing. His dark eyes sparkle and smile. He is into heavy petting
and will bestow tons of kisses in return. Some people even call him goofy.

Goofiness aside, he possesses impeccable manners and puts the GENTLE in
gentleman. Boogie seek a quiet home with someone who would be willing to
be his seeing eye person.

Boogie is waiting for that special someone at the Liberty Animal Shelter
in Jersey City, NJ. If you can give him the second chance he deserves,
please contact mailto:lhs@libertyhumane.org

CRIPPLED BOXER BABY NEEDS HELP!!!! Louisiana

PLEASE SEND TO ALL THE BOXER RESCUES YOU KNOW!!!

I just pulled a small white boxer from local animal control.  His back legs are crippled.  He has some hip dysphasia but other than that they is nothing physically wrong with them.  He can move them and they paddle up and down when you pick him up.  The problem is neurological.  His brain is just not firing the right signals off to the legs to make them work properly.

He is very skinny and a little food aggressive which makes me believe that he had to fight for food among his siblings.  But he is a very loving and happy pup otherwise.  He is probably around 10 weeks old and full of urine burns from laying in his own urine.  The baby can lead a very happy life in a wheelchair.

Please send this to all the boxer rescue groups that you know and let's see if we can get some help for this boy.  I am not financially able (nor do I have the required space) to care for this sweetheart as he needs to be.  Thanks.

Baby, Paralyzed Terrier Type has been rescued!!

Good news!
A wonderful woman who volunteers with Rat Bone (a terrier rescue) is going to be taking Baby.  She has other cart dogs, and her home is equipped with ramps etc. for them.

Thanks for the wonderful email, cross-postings etc., and support for Baby.

Please pass the good news along!!

YOUNG TERRIER TYPE With PARALYZED LEGS!! - Richmond, IN. - THEY WILL KILL BABY!! -

Anyone interested in adopting or taking Baby in for rescue can email me, Denise Harrington, at: deniseharr1@insightbb.com  ( at  insightbb.com );
Phone: (765) 939-7051 or (765) 277-1826.

The vet info for Baby is that she was treated and diagnosed by TL:C Pet Hospital in Richmond, IN (765) 973-8703.   The treating vet is Dr. Jeff Logue.

Baby is a 1-yr-old female Terrier type.  She belongs to a very elderly woman on disability.  Baby was born with spinaLbifida.   As a result, she is completely paralyzed in her back legs, and is incontinent (she wears doggy diapers which she does well with).

Baby was brought to my attention a few months ago by the people from whom her owner is renting a room.  After talking with the owner and finding out about Baby's condition, I personally donated a $300 cart for Baby that she uses to wheel herself around the floor.  She has adapted very well to the cart and has no mobility problems when in it.

Unfortunately, Baby can no longer live with her owner, who is now starting to develop dementia, and is no longer able to care for her.  She forgets to change Baby's diapers, and as a result, Baby suffers from terrible urine burns and sores on her stomach and legs.  The people with whom the owner lives, along with animal control, have contacted me and have asked me to try and place Baby with a different home.  If I cannot do so, Baby will have to be euthanized.

While I understand that in certain situations, a dog's medical condition can warrant euthanization, this is not the case.  Baby is one of the happiest, friendliest, most loving & sweet dogs I have ever met.  She has no clue that she isn't "normal."  If she is out of the cart, she tries to jump up to greet you and will scoot herself on her diaper across the floor to meet you.  In the cart, she wheels around in circles to have you play with her.  Baby is not food aggressive, is good with children of all ages, and loves other dogs and cats.

Given Baby's young age and exceptional personality, I believe that she could live an extremely happy and healthy life with someone understanding of her special needs.

Her case is truly sad in that when I visited her last night to take the pictures, you could see the open sores on her legs and stomach.  I know she has no hair left because of the urine burns.  I am hoping to get her out of the situation as soon as possible so I would appreciate any help that you can give.

SPECIAL NEEDS KITTENS! Visually Impaired Need Homes

From: Gail Whelan gailwhelan@companionanimalnetwork.org (companionanimalnetwork.org)

DARK TABBY:  Murphy

A very good friend, Caren Williams, rescued these kittens (all males)and has been nurturing them and working on their socialization.
They were abandoned at approx. 4 weeks of age and were diagnosed with a severe viral infection that affected their eyes.
Caren has paid for the necessary surgery on each kitten to allow them to regain their sight.

LIGHT TABBY:  Wheatley

They are still fearful of people and will need someone with an abundance of love and some patience.

LIGHT SIAMESE:  Joshua

The reason they are "special needs" is that they can NEVER be outside again.  Because of the surgery to their eyes, they can NEVER handle the harsh light outside.  They will always have to live indoors. These are precious, sweet babies.  If you know anyone that might be interested in adopting one or two of them, please contact Caren Williams at 214.679.7577.

beautiful disabled kittens possibly due for euthanasia

Teeny and Spazzy the "seal" kitties
Cat
Tabby Mix

Contact Person: ololo_truthseekr@yahoo.com (yahoo.com)

Size: kittens
Age: born May 4, 2007
Gender: a male and a female
ID:
Teeny: female, will be spayed if adopted
Spazzy: male, will be spayed if adopted
housetrained
dewormed, will be current on vaccinations if adopted

Teeny and Spazzy both have light grey tabby coats. Both have
beautiful periwinkle hazel eyes (hazel eyes with blue-grey instead of
green, awesome!)

Notes: I hesitate to call these cats "special needs": they are
active, happy and seemingly unaware of their disability. These
littermates were born without functioning "elbows" on their hind legs
and weak "wrist" joints on those same limbs. I call them "seal
kitties" because the limited use of their hind legs causes them to
hump across the ground similar to a seal. I personally think it's
kinda cute but would NEVER breed for this trait- it's a birth defect.

These cats are hand raised and VERY sweet. According to their vet the
condition of their legs could bring on arthritis later in life. We
watch them closely as they grow for signs of sores from using their
legs differently but so far the fur hasn't even rubbed off. They are
very active and even able to use the litterbox usually without
soiling on themselves.

Teeny and Spazzy will never be able to jump up on counters, though
there is no doubt in my mind that Spazzy could climb to the top of
drapes if he put his mind to it- he already makes it on the couch,
chairs and top of the three foot hight cat tree. Teeny is more of a
daydreamer, and turns to putty in your hands. Each had no problem
keeping up with the other kittens in the litter.

Attempts have been made to brace their legs into a more stable,
normal position. Teeny is responding well to her `physical therapy',
and may wind up using the braces. Spazzy's legs are different: they
have bones growing curved and his haunches aren't as strong. I'm
still working on developing a brace that will work for him. They move
fine as they are, and bracing will not improve the situation but only
act as a crutch and serve to make them look more normal. Bracing also
presents problems dealing with circulation and different posture
problems that could result in further complications. Although it may
be difficult for some people to watch them move around, they are
happy cats and prefer to do it on their own.

Our wish is that Teeny and Spazzy be adopted into the same household.
We are located in Sandpoint, Idaho. I've posted pictures of them in
this groups Yahoo! Groups Photos.

~thanks for your concern :)

Notes:
It was late one evening when our local animal control office got a call about an injured cat. Upon response they found a very disturbing site. There lay a cat, appearing to be in shock from pain. One eye was swollen to nearly twice its normal size and was covered by a black what appeared to be scab, and the surrounding tissue area of the eye was red and inflamed. With care and caution the removed the cat from the property and rushed him to the vet.
What was found after his vet visit is enough to break the strongest of hearts. He started to become more conscious as they arrived at the vet and then came the horrific moans and wails, the same noises that brought attention to him originally when found out in a residents back yard. They were bone chilling and you could almost feel the pain he was projecting in his voice. The vet quickly sedated the cat to put him at ease and make examination easier and pain free.

The vet examined the eye, they removed the black mass over where the eye was. This is when they found how badly damaged the eye was and had no choice but to remove it. The cause for this horrific damage, the vet said it appeared that a very acidic substance was poured over the cats face, leaving it to literally burn the eye and damage tissue around the eye. What makes this worse is that it is almost impossible for this to be an accident, because of the location of the burn and the severity of the injuring they are almost certain that this was a deliberate act of cruelty.
Poor Swain he was already neutered, he might have been someone's outdoor cat, or may have been simply let loose when his owners no longer wanted him or could no longer care for him. Not only was he subject to now care for himself but he was subject to the cruel heartless people who thought subjecting an Innocent cat to such mercifulness pain and suffering was acceptable.
Its been a long recovery for Swain but he has healed since the surgery and is learning to trust people again. He needs a calm home that will give him time to adjust, he does like to be held and sit in your lap but only once he knows you, he can still be very sensitive about people touching his face and head but with time and love this is an obstacle he will surly conquer!
To all cat owners out there please take note. Swain did not ask for this, he did not ask to be let outside, whether he was abandoned, lost, or just an outdoor cat. Swain did not ask for the pain he had to deal with or the other cruel aspects of the outdoor world like cars, wild animals, dogs, lack of food and cruel heartless humans. All Swain wanted was a home the loved him, cared about his well being and looked out for home. Please don't let your domesticated cat outside, the world can be very cruel in too many aspects, please keep your cats inside and help prevent the suffering of other Innocent creatures.

Can anyone help them???  They have to be out by Friday a.m., or they wil be euthanized.

I will offer to help cover some boarding until they could be moved.  But does anyone have a place for a blind old girl and/or her seeing eye lab??

This gal is old and she's also blind. Tiff said it is very sad.  She was picked up wandering with the yellow lab (who must be her seeing eye dog).

If you want to get her out, please let me know ASAP, or she will be put down Friday morning.

Thanks,
Louria

This poor boy was picked up as a stray and he is blind. He is scared with all these sounds and smells. He needs a very special person who finds value in what others think is useless. He is a good boy and still has a lot to give. He does not deserve to end his days on the cold shelter floor unaware of what is happening. He is calm, gentle, and not a barker. He deserves a second chance at love and life. The adoption fees are $125 for adult dogs and $100 for puppies. This fee includes the first set of shots (including rabies), worming, a wellness check at a participating vet, microchip and registration, a leash, collar, and ID tag. All animals are spayed or neutered before leaving the shelter.

This dog gets along w/ other dogs and seems in good health.

Notes: Penny came to us as a stray on 7/2/07 and is in very bad shape!! She was attacked by something (maybe another dog) and has 2 puncture holes in her bottom jaw and her check bone. She is very swollen and has a very rotten odor to her. When we opened her mouth we found her tongue to be totally detached from her mouth and very infected. She is limping on her hind leg and her front leg is also swollen. We have since put her on a strong antibiotic and are draining the puss from her wounds a couple times a day. She is finally able to eat because her swelling has went down and she is begining to feel more like a pup! However she is still very uncomfortable and needs to be taken to a vet, Donations would be greatly appreciated so we do not have to euthanize because of a high estimate from a vet!!!!!!!!!!! Please mail any donations to us at PO Box 174, Bloomery, WV 26817. Thank you!! If you are interested in adopting this dog, Please fill out an application located on our homepage and email it to us at HampshireCountyAC@yahoo.com, Remember to mention the name of the dog you are interested in!

Mango, CH kitty in NYC

Mango is a very handsome 1 year old orange tabby male kitty who was relinquished by his owner to animal control in NYC as she had to move and could no longer afford to care for him. He was rescued with his litter, of which he was the sole survivor. Mango has CH. He is moderately to severely affected.  He is able to take a step or 2, tentatively, and gets around fine, but then will flip and roll to his side and will hit whatever is in his way, as CH kitties tend to do.  Mango has been neutered, vaccinated, and has tested negative for FIV/FeLV. Mango is getting along with other cats and has also met dogs (small, quiet ones) and has settled in nicely.

please contact Tara at MaddieK9@aol.com. photos available. Mango is located in Manhattan.

DE Three darling "Special Needs" Kitties

These beautiful kittens were rescued from outside and arrived with severe eye infections. The two females are adorable torbies, and Rascal is the cute orange tabby (see photo links below). They are about 7 weeks old. Have received first distemper shots and worming. They have partial vision, one of the little girls probably can only see shadows, but they don't seem to notice and are champs at finding the litterbox and playing. Very happy trio ISO loving home! Please email me directly if you can help!  Darnot@aol.com

Rockville,, MD - Blind Akita

This beautiful boy has been at the shelter since 6/19 but I haven't been able to access the Internet until today to post him.
Koda was an owner surrender and appears to have been primarily kept outside. There are fly strikes on his ears and he needs grooming. He was not born blind but his blindness was reported to be progressive. He is scheduled to be evaluated for temperament (because he's an Akita and special needs) but my personal experience with him is that he is a big teddy bear that loves to sit or lay next to you, be petted and spoken to. He does get an attitude when he is in his cage and another dog tries to get too close but outside of the cage he appears just fine. I am very worried about him because the shelter is full and they have been euthanizing every week. If you can help this sweet boy please email
or contact
Montgomery County Animal Control & Humane Society at (240) 773-5960
Ask for information about animal ID number A307754

I will personally help in any way I can. The shelter is very rescue friendly and there is no pull fee to approved 501(c)3 rescues. This includes vaccinations and microchip. Koda is already neutered. PLEASE save Koda..
Yours in rescue,
Kricket

Leitchfield, KY. - Injured Dog!!!!!

This poor girl we named Peg was brought in by animal control sometime during the night Saturday. On Sunday morning we discovered her trembling in her kennel, probably both from pain and fright. Her little leg has been damaged, probably beyond repair, and will need to be amputated. Not only is it skinned, it dangles from the joint. She has not growled at us at all; instead she welcomes any loving attention we give to her which included some pain medication we were able to give her.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Being a weekend, it took a while to get her into the vet's office, where it was suggested that the cheaper alternative was to kill her, but we rejected this right away. She is sweet and loving, and there is someone out there who will accept this soon-to-be three legged girl into their home

we're just sure of it. Could that someone be you?

We will update as we know more of her situation. In the meantime if you want to give this girl a place where she can recover, please contact us.

GA...Rescued Beautiful Torti Kitten Needs Eye Surgery ASAP!!!

Poor thing....just as sweet as can be. Probably a few months
old...maybe 2 pounds if were lucky. Eats like a pig...walks all over
the house since she came in. Uses the litter box. A real doll baby.
Doesn't seem to be in pain, but it must be from the way this eye
looks. Although I have been cleaning it several times since she came
in the house, and she does not flinch.
We are getting vet estimates today to get her eye removed as soon as
possible depending on costs.
