Lenny, The Pit Bull bait dog needs your help

KALAMAZOO COUNTY - A dog that was recently rescued off the streets is believed to have been used as a "bait dog" in underground dog fights. And thanks to the woman who rescued him and a local veterinarian, he's expected to make a full recovery.

His name is Lenny the Pit Bull. His rescuer, Karen Douglas, has already set him up with his own Facebook profile to detail his story and his struggle.

He was discovered on the streets of Cooper Township, north of Kalamazoo, with numerous scratches, bite marks, and visible malnutrition. When he was brought to a veterinarian in Grand Rapids, Lenny was diagnosed as having kidney failure, infections of the jaw and mouth, and again, numerous untreated bites and injuries.

According to his Facebook page, "He was negative for heart worms, but the rest of his blood work was not promising. In short, his kidneys were failing. This could be due to the infection in his mouth, his general poor health, or there is a possibility he may have been poisoned. Poisoning fighting dogs is not an uncommon way for someone to 'euthanize' them."

Lenny went in for surgery on Sunday and is currently undergoing fluid therapy. He has gained three pounds since undergoing treatment.

My mission with Operation Fuzzy Mice is to provide vet care and other pet-related resources, either by paying for it directly or by referral and networking, to low-income families who own pets, and who would otherwise have to relinquish, abandon, or euthanize their pets for inability to provide care financially. Nearly all of these families have fallen on hard times due to illness, injury, family disaster, or national economic recession resulting in loss of jobs or homes. Pets are given up tearfully and reluctantly by owners, because families see no other choice. This of course does no justice to the pets, nor to California's already-struggling economy when the state must support overcrowded shelters as well as euthanize and dispose of so many homeless animals. I have only known one case where an owner gave a pet up in coldhearted fashion. All others were tearful and reluctant, not just "dumping." Even in abandonment cases, animals are purposefully left in places where someone else may find and care for them, and this happens because the owners can't afford to pay the relinquishment fee at a shelter.

On the flipside to those who relinquish pets, are folks who have gone as far as moving to tent-cities or living in cars before giving up their pets, refusing to turn their back on a fellow member of the family. I have also met a lot of lifelong homeless folks who do things like attend mission meal lines, and take an extra plate home to the pet, or give their whole meal and themselves go hungry before that pet goes without, the way many parents would do for their children. For a lot of these folks, with no money, family, home, health or future, that pet is the only thing they've got. I've even met one man who believes if he didn't have his dog, he would have no reason to stay sober.

I believe that these folks, with such love and devotion to their pets, deserve a chance, and their pets deserve to keep their homes and humans. This public assistance is our primary mission.

We do have some cats in our care, as we got started by taking in abandoned pregnant strays so that kittens would not be born feral. (It is mostly female cats who are abandoned, because owners cannot afford spaying them nor feeding more kittens.) Most of those cats are adoptable, but still live here, because in Bakersfield culture, no one wants to go through adoption proceedings when a neighbor or a newspaper ad is giving kittens away for free with no strings attatched. There's a major cultural mindset of apathy towards cats that must change if Bakersfield is to reduce staggering cat overpopulations, and Operation Fuzzy Mice would like to take some small step in making that change.

Conan, who FelineUnit mentioned, is one of these foster cats. He and three littermates were bottle fed orphans. Conan sustained an injury at an interested adoptive home, and was reclaimed. It has been almost two months, and the paw has still not healed. The vet suggested irrigation surgery, but all we could pay for at the time was lancing. There have been other pets; Tiger was stepped on by accident, suffered head trauma, and was making a turnaround before dying. We await necropsy results, but there is no doubt that if Tiger received full IV meds and diagnostics immediately, his chances would have been far better. Tiger's sister, Tina, was a runt, and diagnostic testing might have led to surgery to improve her chances. Survivor succumbed to flea anemia, which might have been reversed with a blood transfusion. Middy2 died of septic shock, avoidable if his giardia were diagnosed and treated immediately rather than waiting for funding. His sister, Nymph, carries the giardia and shows stunted growth among other health problems, waiting for funding. Buttercup is a terrior mix who has an unidentified skin fungus, the shampoo alone costing the elderly owner $25 per month. There are countless other pets in homes dealing with flea infestations, respiratory viruses, worms, unwanted pregnancies, and many other very treatable conditions, but the families, many homeless, unemployed, or on social benefits, have choose between providing this care or putting food in their stomaches.

There is a CareCredit account for Operation Fuzzy Mice, but it is maxed. The pets who were vetted in full on this credit line are thriving now. Those who had to wait for fundraising and then get minimal vetting have done poorly or have died. Our request to you is to drive to pay off or pay down the CareCredit, or, start up a fund for supplies or for spay and neuter assistance to families. Even more in need than money, are volunteers to serve on our executive board so we can apply for nonprofit status.

Chihuahua in need of help!

My little 4 pound chihuahua is 2 years old and has seizures.
It has been controlled with medication but he went in for his bi yearly
Phenobarbital level check today and had complications. The vet could not
get him settled enough to draw his blood and gave him a light sedative
then a reverse to bring him out. I took him home but he slept for several
hours. Upon waking he could not stand on his front right leg. I called the
vet and they finally agreed to see him. I feared they hurt his tiny leg
trying to draw blood before the sedative. Needless to say they cant find
out whats wrong and are talking of a specialist. They are thinking either Hydrocephalus or Atlanto-Occitital Luxation. He needs to see a specialist immediately as he is in severe pain. I am a nursing student
who was working as a nurses aide but recently lost my job due to
downsizing. Im in the middle of a divorce and cannot afford all this extra
expense. My little boy is my heart and soul right now I desperately need
financial assistance. Thank you!!!

Snickers is sick and needs funds to continue treatment

Our baby is very ill and after trip after trip and test after test at our vet, then the emerg. specialist, we need to take her to a neurologist, the tests alone will be $800-$2000 not to mention if she needs surgery. The specialist thinks it is either Meningitis, A Tumor or A Spinal/Disc issue. She is not able to use her back legs nor use the restroom without our help. If you would like me to email you the full timeline, meds she is on and symptoms to maybe give us some more insight, please send us a email.

Please help Barney have the surgery to prolong his life

My Barney

I was looking for a second dog for me and my yorkie when I first met Barney in a shelter. Someone handed him to me and unlike any other dog I have ever met or held he held onto me with all four legs – as if he was pleading to be taken from this place and given a home, pleading to have his life saved.

I went home that day but could not forget him – I nicknamed him “Velcro boy” because he held on for life –his life. The following weekend I went back to get him and take him home – but that was short lived because as soon as I took him home – he defecated blood. It took me an entire year of vet appointments to get him healthy.

Over the years my Barney has aided the elderly downstairs and walking (this was done on pure instinct) – was gentle and protective around children and newborn babies and sat on the ground, sidewalk and sometimes street when I fractured my vertebrae in two places and would fall as I was losing my ability to stand and walk – always being there to help teach a new puppy to walk up and down stairs, or help train them – he was always there to offer help to those who needed him.

Now it is his turn. My Barney is dying of a very aggressive cancer – he has a mass on his anal gland, a mass on his bladder and an enlarged lymph node on his stomach and other areas. Only surgery can prolong his life – without it he has a very short time left – a few weeks or months, if lucky.

I have been unemployed for over one year, require a second spine surgery, have had 6 laser surgeries on my eyes and am in severe financial hardship. I am selling my couch and TV but that is not enough – I need help. Please, please, help me to be able to get Barney surgery to prolong his life.

Shadow Needs Surgery for Aural Hematoma

Hi!

Shadow is about 9 years old and I've had her since she was 11months old. She came from a bad situation and weighed approx.35lbs, was emaciated and in poor shape. She was bred at the age of 7months and left to meet her maker basically. With a little time and good nourishment and love she regained her health and has been with me ever since. Before we saved her I prayed for joy and that joy came in the form of Shadow. I live on a fixed ssdi and as much as I want to provide the best possible care for her it's tough. Two years ago I took her to my vet, Shiloh veterinary and got her all her shots etc.etc. so except for her rabies booster she is up to date.

Shadow has an appt with the vet at 10:20am tomorrow to have this looked at and I will send a copy of the vets' report along to you tomorrow. Any help you can offer will be greatly appreciated.

This is what Dr. Amanda Hurley from Shiloh Veterinary Hospital had to say:

Attn: Amy and Becky,

This letter is to inform you of the need and cost of care for Shadow. He has severe ear infections and an Aural Hematoma. Correction of these is important to insure minimal scarring of the ear canal. If left untreated, narrowing of the canal can occur leading to increased risk of infections. Attached are 2 estimates, one is for the recommended procedure to properly correct Shadow's ear and includes safety recommendations such as pre-anesthetic bloodwork and IV catheter and fluids. The second estimate is for a "modified" solution which would be to simply sedate and drain the ear. Bandaging of the ear to the head keeps pressure and may prevent refilling. This is not recommended since the ear is likely to refill with blood and application of medicine to the ear canal becomes impaired. However this would be better than doing nothing at all. I appreciate your time and hope you will be able to help Shadow and his mom. Shadow is othewise very healthy and in good shape.

Maxwell Needs Some Medical Tests

My 4.5 year old corgi had a severe back issue last December, after all
the tests came back negative, the vet and neurologist decided to wait
and see if the problem comes back again. In the meantime his two
illnesses were 25% of my unemployment income last year and now he can
not get his vaccinations this year because the vets do not know if his
issue was autoimmune or back related.

I need help with these tests to
see if his immunity for overdue rabies is high enough to skip this shot
and the others he is coming due for. The vets are afraid to give these
shots not knowing if his issue was autoimmune related. If this
condition comes back his expenses will be probably thousand of dollars
and I do not have the money, but love my dog with all my heart and soul
and would give my life for him to be alive and healthy. Any help u can
give would be appreciated.

Cooper American Bulldog/Boxer mix needs surgery

I would like to post a story about my American bulldog/boxer mix who was
born with a birth defect that twisted both his hind tibia's and fibula's
and dislocated both his hind kneecaps disabling him from walking. His
reconstructive surgeries were estimates at $3500 each leg.

The first surgery was performed and with donations we were able to put just about $1500 towards it. The remaining $2000 balance still remains and his left
leg needs the same surgery. I am looking for any kind of way to accept donations.

Handipets Kennel Rebuild Project Begins

We had a few fundraisers going but time was running out. We did raise enough funds to get a few panels but finally we asked my sister if she could get us a small loan to get the rest of the panels because the kennel continues to collapse inward and it's becoming dangerous to humans and soon will be a danger to animals. Between the donations we did get and the loan we were able to get enough panels and lumber to build two solid walls. We are still trying to raise donations for a wire wall to complete the structure and for the materials needed for the feline containment trap netting that must be in place around the perimeter of the fence in order for us to tear out the ruins of the collapsed kennel and allow the animals to use the new one.

Thursday 3/18 at about 6 am I was driving down a dark street and barely made out an object lying in the road. It was a black chow mix. A neighbor saw a car hit him and speed off without stopping. The dog was alert but in a lot of pain. I waited two hours for animal control to show up. They helped me get him in my truck and I took him to an emergency vet.

He has a broken humerus and multiple fractures of his pelvis. But other signs looked normal, no internal injuries. Broken bones can be mended. But it requires surgery that can only be done by a specialty vet. That coupled with the emergency vet care to stabilize him shot up the costs astronomically to over $7,000. I hate the thought of putting down an animal whose injuries are so curable. So since Thursday I have been searching for alternatives. I have two non-profits who have pledged a total of $1430 so far.

He will need three surgeries - one for the humerus, two for the pelvis. Maximum fee $5,000. This vet generously cut the fees almost in half from the original $9400. He also lowered the down payment from half upfront to only $500 upfront. And he will let me make monthly payments of $660 for six months instead of paying in full at release.

These were all extraordinarily generous concessions, and against protocol. I am very grateful. But still a lot for me to cover on my income. I make about $23,000/yr rehabbing properties in my low income neighborhood and renting them. It takes me a long time to finish a place. I do almost all the work myself. Right now I live off 5 rental units.

A lot of people think it's crazy for me to have taken things this far. And they're probably right because I don't know anything about this guy. But he just has broken bones which are fixable. And I'd rather err on the side of compassion than practicality.

If anyone can contribute any amount to either location - you can call and explain what it's for. both vets should be able to verify costs and validity.

also dog will need about 8 weeks to heal, so if you know anyone who could foster or adopt him in the indianapolis area - please have them call me. i have 2 chow mixes of my own and they're a handful. i also have front and back porch steps - all of which would make it very difficult to care for him.

Browndog Needs Some Medical Testing

I need help paying for tests for my 9-year old dog. Her name is Browndog. I have had her since she was 6 weeks old. Early part of Dec, 2009 she started loosing the ability to walk on her hind legs.

She has undergone tests and been seen by a neurologist, Before the neurologist examined Browndog they thought it was her knees and they were going to do surgery. We were referred to the surgeon and he said it was not her knees but her spinal cord. She has been on steroyds and pain medications.

The neurologist localized her problem to the middle of her spinal cord. Said is could be from protruding disk, degenerative problem or a mass. But to conclude the exact problem they need to do an abdominal ultrasound, thoracic raadiographs and an MRI. We have already spent our savings treating her to date. We are broke and these tests are going to cost aprox $3,000.00. We just don't know what to do, we don't want to put her to sleep. But do not want to see her in pain either.

If anyone has suggestion, please let us know.

Handipets Kennel Rebuild FundRaiser

First we wish to thank Lisanne Walke of Rockin' & Ridin' for Autism for assisting us in this fundraiser. They created this awesome flier for us and are helping us promote this fundraiser in hopes that we can get our "Crippled Critters" into a larger, safe, private, community accepted, stockade kennel with feline containment netting.

Dixie Thunder of Aiken County SC helped us raise funds to build a small lumber and wire mesh kennel for our special critters. Unfortunately weather and outside animals trying to get in took it's toll on the kennel through 2009 and the 2010 South Carolina snowstorm finally destroyed it. We are spending precious funds on temporary patchups of a collapsing kennel when what we need is to build a new one. We can't keep patching the existing one AND buy new fence panels at the same time. This is where we need help. We can keep patching the existing damaged kennel as long as someone is willing to help us buy new fence panels. Once we have all the fence panels we need we can begin erect the new fence, tear down the remains of the old one and recycle whatever we can to finish off the new one.

We run our kennel purely out of pocket and with the annual Crippled Critter Benefit Events held by Dixie Thunder. This alone helps us care for the animals, providing them high quality grain/gluten free commercial foods such as

Hello Friends of Handipets

Most who frequent the Handipets sites know what we do. We help people raise funds for medical care for this special needs pets or we help them find the special home that can give their pet the care that is needed.

Locally we were taking non-medical disabled pets. Our kennel is full and we do not accept any new comers but we do need to take care of the ones we have promised.

Our acceptance is narrow, blind/deaf, limb disorders, balance/coordination disorders, food allergy and related issues, food aggression, hostile/fearful toward humans (feral/hard stray rehabs), toothless and just plain gross or ugly ones that families can't seem to deal with. We offer them an outdoor area (which most prefer) and we keep it all natural. They also have access to a portable building which is my office and where I spend all of my days and they have access to my bedroom where of course I spend the rest of my time. Only a fraction like to come inside though so we need as much outdoor space as we can confine with a full netted canopy.

The winter snow storms that blew in there on Feb 12 (highly unusual for South Carolina) not only caused my partner to go off the road and into a ditch...but the snow laid heavily upon the nylon netting that is the feline containment canopy that covers the entire kennel, it weighed it down so badly the netting dropped 6 feet and touched the ground!!! It snowed through the night and the weight of the net pulling down damaged the timber side walls of the kennel pulling them inward and breaking several cross boards that hold the chicken wire netted walls as well as the nylon canopy netting. The netting tore from the office building and mobile home.

Now we have a badly damaged kennel and this makes feline escapes an extremely high risk. We have been needing to rebuild the kennel for quite some time now, I have have a chip in donation widget in the left column but now It's URGENT. Sidney was shot by a neighbor and it was after his shooting we worked hard to come up with funds to build a kennel and feline containment system. We get some help from Dixie Thunder of Aiken County with annual benefits to keep up on the kennel and of course the other needs of the animals inside the kennel but now it's in such rough shape we simply need to build a new one with all new lumber and order new canopy netting.

I will have labor help to build a new kennel but I must have lumber and supplies.

PLEASE promote this fund raiser as you do those who need medical help. We will do what we can to patch the damage once all the snow melts but as anyone who must contain cats knows, you can't make mistakes...they will find the weak points.

We need stockade fencing to cover roughly 1/3 acre of property. We have a Home Depot nearby and are willing to accept purchases of fence panels to be picked up at our local stores also willing to accept gift cards for Home Depot. The netting we use is ordered from Florida Nets and we buy the 50 foot by 30 foot 1/2 in netting.

Dusty the Doberman needs surgery can you help?

Dusty is a 5 year old, beautiful and loving Doberman who has been tackling battle after battle in the last few years. He came to us in the fall of 2005 when he was just over a year old. He was an energetic and goofy, big baby who loved to run around in the yard for hours and hours, chasing after his football or playing tug-of-war with his rope toy.

We enjoyed each new day with Dusty until late January of 2007 when he started having problems walking. It began with a limp that we dismissed as a muscle strain because of his high level of activity. After 2 weeks of no improvement, we began to worry when he started to hold his left hind leg up. Then came the day that he yelped in pain and we knew that he had to be seen by the vet right away. We took him to the vet in late February of 2007 and our hearts were broken when they told us he tested “strong positive” for Lyme Disease. We had him treated right away with a strong dose of Doxycycline and he was given Deramax for pain management. After about a month of treatment we slowly tried to take him off of the pain medication and his limping returned. By the end of April we decided that we did not want to continue him on Deramax because of the side effects and more tests were needed to determine why he was still having pain with his left hind leg.

On the morning of April 23rd I cried when I left him at the vet for his x-ray that day. Later that evening when we picked him up, the vet explained to us that Dusty’s x-ray showed that he has Degenerative Joint Disease. They made the assumption that the Lyme Disease progressed the degeneration of his hip bone. The grinding of these bones was causing him the great deal of pain that he was experiencing and they recommended that we start him on Adequan. Dusty received his first Adequan shot that day, his next shot 4 days later, another shot 4 days from then and 3 more shots that were each 4 days later. After that, he received a series of 8 shots that were each between 3 weeks and a month apart. Although this was still a lot of vet visits, we were happy to see that some improvement had been made. From this point forward we have been able to schedule his shots approximately 2 months apart, totaling approximately 13 shots to date (November 2009).

This expense alone has put us in a very hard spot financially but we could never stop them because we know that without them, Dusty would not be able to walk around comfortably or play with us in the yard. Each shot is approximately $45, so we have easily spent over $1200 on just his shots, which does not include the office visits, tests, x-rays, etc. which have totaled well over $700. This of course is in addition to all the regular monthly expenses that any pet owner is well aware of (food, preventative meds, yearly exams, etc.)

In the fall of 2008 we noticed that Dusty had a lump on his foot. We visited the vet and went through all of the necessary tests and treatments to determine what was causing this. We spent approximately $600 for his office visits, x-ray, ointments, antibiotics, cytology tests, etc. The vet was unable to determine what was causing this and before we were able to have it surgically removed, the bump went away.

Our most recent experience in the adventures of Dusty has been just this month. One week ago we discovered a lump on Dusty’s side. We immediately scheduled a visit with the vet. She had a hard time feeling the lump but was concerned because it did feel hard to her. They did an aspiration and sent it to the lab. While checking him, the vet noticed a mole by his eye that just recently grew there, over the last year. She expressed to us that she was concerned because she did not like the color of the mole and she suggested that we have it removed. We agreed that we would schedule the surgery when we had the funds to do so and asked for them to send us a quote. After handing over our credit card to pay for the $150 bill, we went home to wait for the Cytology results.

The next day the vet called and told us that the results showed the cells to be fat. She was fairly confident that she was able to extract the cells from the lump but did explain to us that she couldn’t be 100% certain and that there was always the possibility that she missed the lump. Because of this and the fact that the lump did feel hard to her, she recommended that we have it removed when we have the mole on his eye removed, this way we could have both biopsied. I asked her if the quote for surgery was ready and she gave me the magic number - $814!

We love Dusty beyond what words could ever explain but we just are not financially capable of paying for this new expense. We have struggled so hard just to have the means to pay for his regular expenses and all that he has required until now. With unexpected expenses totaling me than $2,600 in just the last 3 years, we have really had a difficult time affording what he needs. If we had time, we could slowly set aside the money needed for him to have this surgery but because there is a possibility that these lumps could be harmful, it would break our hearts to have to put off this surgery. We have looked into the option of using Care Credit but we would still be unable to make the necessary monthly payments.

Could you find it in your heart to help us? Any donation that you could offer would be so greatly appreciated – even $5 or $10 would make a huge difference to us and would get us one step closer to scheduling this surgery which is so important to us.

Marty needs lifesaving surgery for anal prolapse, can you help?

I have found myself in a desperate situation with a devastating outcome if I don’t find some much needed help. My 8 week old kitten needs a life saving surgery.

My boyfriend, Brad, and I visited some mutual friends on the weekend of September 26th, 2009 in Tallahassee, FL. Once we arrived, we met one of the girl’s 11 week old kitten. He had an obviously large, solid belly and was walking uncomfortably. This girl had a full time job and left the kitten locked out of her room every day where his food, water or litter box were, all day. She works at a profitable job and never took the kitten in for a visit at the vet after she adopted him, as the shelter made her sign and promise. The second day we were there, the kitten’s anus prolapsed. If his belly full of worms wasn’t sign enough that the kitten needed to see a vet, his anus being forced out was clear enough to anyone.

The owner locked him in a cage because his “butt is gross” and right then decided that she wasn’t going to take him in to the vet because it cost too much money. She left the kitten in there and was going to leave it to die outside. I immediately called my vet hospital from back home in Chicago and all my former employees I had worked with at Petco. I’ve worked as a grooming assistant and trained service dogs for the handicapped and I know that no animal should have been living like this kitten.
The girl didn’t care about the kitten anymore, so my boyfriend and I took him home with us to Tampa, where we live and go to school. The very next day, the kitten, which we named Marty, had a vet visit. The vet let us know that this 11 week old kitten was really no more than 6 weeks old and weighed only 1 pound! The vet confirmed that Marty had a terrible case of worms, along with a horrific ear infection and a large infestation of fleas. Because his previous owner hadn’t gotten him de-wormed after she adopted him, Marty’s worms were so bad that they had forced his anus to prolapse. The diagnosis required a surgery in which he would have stitches around his anus. This surgery is usually successful, especially in young kittens, if the worms and prolapse are treated in time.

His surgery was almost $300.00, and could have been prevented had he been taken to the vet to get a simple check-up and medicine when he was adopted. My boyfriend is unemployed and a full time student and I have a part time job working 6 hour weeks, maximum, for minimum wage while being a full time student. Needless to say, we were not ready to pay for the vet visit as well as a surgery. We are both huge animal lovers, so helping Marty was not even a question for us. While having the stitches in for a week, Marty was de-wormed with a 5-day treatment and 2 other strong de-worming medicines. In between the visit to get the stitches in and out, Marty went in for 2 more vet visits, because Brad and I were so worried that he would get infections and just wanted to make sure everything was going smoothly. The day his stitches came out, everything was looking good. The next day, his anus prolapsed yet again. Another vet visit and cost later, we were told to wait two weeks to see if it would go back in. Discouraged two weeks later, the vet gave us two options: humane euthanasia or a surgery with a 100% success of never prolapsing again.

Brad and I love Marty so much. He is our child, and touches every part of our hearts. The day we saved Marty from sure death, he saved us. Marty wants nothing more than to be by people, constantly following us around the house, begging to sleep on our laps and constantly giving kisses. He is so happy yet has never known a truly happy life without pain. Marty never whines, despite the half hour sessions of cleaning and lubing his anus, consistent vet visits, stitches and having to wear an E-collar all the time so that he doesn’t lick and dry out the exposed anus. He is such a trooper and has been so strong in his very short life. To know that Marty could be a happy and not in pain after this surgery lifts up my heart and spirit. The only problem is the cost.

Brad and I can not afford the permanent surgery, which costs around $3,500.

We have already spent so much more than anyone ever should have, had it all been prevented with just one vet visit after his adoption. We are so pressed for money and trying to raise as much as we can. As college students, not many of our friends have money to donate, and neither do non-profit organizations. Everyone wants to help so bad, especially after they meet Marty, but no one can financially.
Brad and I need to make a decision soon, and while we wait for answers, Marty lives his life with a prolapsed anus, constantly wearing an E-collar and relentlessly uncomfortable and in pain. He doesn’t deserve this life of pain that he has only ever known. Marty, Brad and I would be eternally grateful if you even consider our application. This one surgery will change our entire lives and allow Marty to be a kitten. A real kitten. Marty is my entire life, and I can not and will not let him be taken from me if this one surgery can fix all of his problems.

Receiving any donation would be the best thing to happen to our family and would finally allow Marty to experience a life where there is nothing but love. Marty is too young, too loving, too undeserving of pain and most of all, too much a part of us to be anything but better and healthy. I appreciate any help you can give our family. Milo needs surgery, can you help?

since she had the surgery, Gizmo has been wearing this t-shirt so that
she wouldn’t try to scratch at the incision/sutures. (I bought a

Gizmo loves the beach, so I was thrilled to get her a beach themed t-shirt.

As of today, however, she is suture and t-shirt free and lookin’ good.

Gizmo is a 13-year-old dog of indeterminate heritage (her
veterinarian in Washington used to call her the world’s largest
papillion). She is a rescue dog from the Animal Care and Control
in San Francisco, CA. When I first got her in December of 1996, it was
estimated that she was about one, and I was told that she was found in
an abusive situation where she had been hit, kicked, and threatened
with death.

Gizmo has been a wonderful companion for the past 12 years. We’ve
since moved from San Francisco to Everett, Washington, back to San
Francisco for a brief stay, and we now reside in Kentucky. I’m a
student pursuing my bachelor’s degree in English, as well as a
part-time instructor at the college I attend. As such, my funds are
low, particularly at this time of the year when the summer semester is
almost over and the fall semester is a month away.

On Thursday, July 16, 2009, I took Gizmo to her veternarian because
the fatty tumor she has had for a couple of years had become infected.
The vet informed me that the tumor is in need of removal, and then she
handed me the bill. The low estimate for the surgery (and related
costs, such as x-rays, biopsy, post-surgical pain management, and
surgery assessment) is $698.25 US and the high estimate (assuming that
surgery lasts more than 30 minutes) is $865.25 US. The wording of the
estimate allows for a 15% rate of error, which means that the surgery
could go as high as $995.25 US.

I simply can’t cover that amount of money in the time needed She
currently has a two week supply of antibiotics, and the veterinarian
believes that she needs to have the surgery by the end of the two week
period. That means she needs to have her surgery around August 1, 2009.

Had this happened in November, it would be a different story, but it
was a struggle to pay the $136 I’ve put out this week for care. I’m
not someone who finds it easy to accept help, especially monetary, but
I love my dog, and I am determined to help her however I can.

I’ve set up a PayPal account specifically for her surgery costs.
Please donate whatever you can. Any help is appreciated. If you are
unable to donate, please forward this url to someone who may be able to

I will check the PayPal account daily, and I will shut it down the

I'm a mother of 5 children who just lost their dad tragically two years ago.
I got the kids a dog to try and help them emotionally with the loss of their dad.
Our dog means everything to us.
A few months ago our dog got run over by a car and broker her pelvis. The vet saved her and accepted a post dated check from me. They waited too long to put the check through and when they did, the check was bad. I paid the check and the vet off.
The other night my dog was having her pups and one of the pups got stuck. I ran her to the vet and he got the pup out of her and she is doing well.
But they would not accept another post dated check and am refusing to accept anything but cash.
I won't have the money to pay until the first, and they won't wait.
They are holding the dog until payment is made, and are charging us $10 extra for each day they hold our dog.
They told us if payment is not made in full soon, they will be putting our beloved pet to sleep.
My kids and I love our dog.

Otter, my Rabbit, needs extensive surgery. Please Help!

Otter is my little 3 year old dwarf house bunny. Ever since I adopted her, she has had chronic health issues, from needing regular tooth-trimmings to combating a bad strain of bordetella. She has been on and off of medications for the past year and nothing has helped cure her. She hacks and coughs all the time, snores heavily at night, and breathes very heavily. My vet, Dr. Sweet, at Chippens Hill Veterinary Hospital, recommended that I take her to Tufts University to get a full skull scan (MRI), surgically remove any pus that might be built up in her sinuses(what we suspect is causing some of her issues), and get a bacterial culture from the deep tissue in her nasal passages to get a better idea of what's ailing her so we can cure it. This is an extremely expensive procedure - 400.00 is about half the cost of what needs to be done. I need help raising money to get these tests and surgery done so that I can have a good shot at finally finding a cure for her. Please help!

Help Raise $ for Barbie's Asthma Attack and ER Visit

Hi Everyone,

Some of you already know that my friends and I have been trapping a feral cat colony behind CSAS School next to the fraternity house on Siskin Drive. These cats have been there for years and we are finally doing a trap-neuter-release on them. As of now, we have caught a total of 12 cats from this area and have at least 2 more to go.

Most of them have been fixed through McKamey's feral cat project at $25 per cat, but some have required other medical treatments and vet care.

First, Buster had a ruptured eyeball (suspected to have been caused by a BB gun) so he needed his eyeball removed during his neuter. This alone cost me about $250. Then, Brandy has needed daily cleaning and medicine applied to her head wound. Because we didn't want to keep catching the same cat twice, I kept them all in my bathroom till we got most of them. I was able to release 4 of them rather quickly, but the rest had come down with massive upper respiratory infections and needed antibiotics twice and day and some even needed subcutaneous fluids and anti-inflammatory medicine for a few days. Because Buster is a true "feral", i had to take him back to the vet and sedate him just to give him fluids and antibiotics; so they had become a rather time-consuming and expensive feral colony at this point, but i was in it for the long haul.

Now,Saturday night at about 3:30 AM, Barbie wakes me up with her wheezing and rapid breathing...so i rush her to the River Emergency Clinic and found out she was having an asthma attack. They did Xrays, gave her steroids, and kept her in the oxygen chamber while I worked on Saturday. Her ER visit and medical treatment came to almost $500...so i need help!!! This is a feral/free-roaming colony and I just happen to be the one housing and caring for all the cats before they get returned. I was not planning on them being so costly.

Buster is doing great after his eye removal and all but Brandy and Barbie have been released now. I want to hold onto Brandy until she is all healed and want to make sure Barbie has no more asthma attacks.

I greatly appreciate any assistance you all can give...THANK YOU!!!

*UPDATE*
Barbie had another asthma attack monday night (3/16). I gave her the bronchodilater injection and got up every couple hours to check on her. Gave her another shot Tuesday morning for St Patrick's Day because she had another attack and then ran her up to my vet because she was still wheezing and breathing fast. She is now on steroid pills for the next 3 weeks, so hopefully this will work.

As of 3/21/09, she seems to be doing better and eating well. Brandy is still requiring fluids, but is starting to eat a little better and seems to be healing well.

4/4/09 Well, I've been by the house several times and have seen all the cats I have released (including Buster with his one eye and he is doing great).

Brandy is eating well and no longer needing fluids, but is ready to be returned to the outdoors.

Barbie is in the last week of her steroids and is doing well with the wean, so far. If all goes well, i will be able to release them both next week some time...hopefully:)

My adopted cat needs to get another eye surgery

My foster kitten Coconut came from a County Animal Shelter with her mom and three sibling. All of them were very sick and only two kitten survived. Coconut was the sickest of the remaining two, her eyes swelling shut for four weeks. Doing everything that we were instructed to do plus more, she finally opened her eyes but her inner eyelids never retracted. She had one surgery when she was young and the vet wanted to wait until she had grown up to do the final surgery. After her final surgery and everything we had been through, we decided to adopt Coconut. But her eye are now getting worse again and we do not want her inner eyelid to grow farther and snuff out any chance she has to see for the rest of her life. She has beautiful blue eye, when you can see them. As she grows bigger, her eyes weep blood, which we clean several times a day, because the tissue around her eyes stretches and tears.

Cole's Broken Leg Surgery

After many years of rescuing and assisting many others in rescue, I am reaching out to everyone to help me with my own cat, Cole, whom I love very much.Time is of the essence because he needs the surgery quickly.
Update as well. I am going to a less expensive vet (just as qualified) to try and get this done.
Coleis a 9 year old cat that is as black as coal....his brother is Will (Irescued them off the street corner of Willamin and Colegate,hence thenames). I have had both of them since they were 6 weeksold......
Colewas attacked on Saturday by two of my dogs (because I did not crate themwhile I was on my porch talking to someone and because dogs can be thatway.....and I was stupid). Now Cole suffers from a"transverse fractureof his right tib/fibula" and needs surgery to pinhis leg back together.I spent four hours at the Animal EmergencyCenter on Saturday...his legis splinted, he is on a narcotic painreliever, antibiotics and needsthe surgery rather quickly.

This is my cat Sweety's story. It is a story of the big and loving friendship I have with him.

Sweety was at the Simi Valley Target under a storage shed with 6 younger kittens (5-1/2 month) & 2 wild adults. A lady named Rosie fed them & enlisted April's help to trap them. Rosie paid to have all 7 fixed, gave shots & de-wormer, & had them all tested. She placed 4 kittens & April asked Kitten Rescue to foster the last 3, including Sweety (7-1/2 months).

At first, they didn't know to separate them, or that the best way with semi-ferals is in separate cages in the house. Sweety spent 10 days in foster area in Monica & Peter's garage with Cinnamon & Lucy (younger
"sisters") before they moved them to the bathroom. Then Sweety became more wild indoors. Worse, the girls were following his lead.

April, Rachel's friend who rescues feral cats including these, came to our house twice to help us with him. She thought he was a good cat, full of fear. She & Rachel said to separate him from the females (divide & conquer) until he got so lonely he would learn to tolerate us. Monica was affraid of him then.

With Sammy's help in the foster cage at times, Sweety got better. Peter started picking him up before meantime after a month. They enlisted to come visit all three kittens & help socialize them. There was something compelling about Sweety, like they then were able to keep Cinnamon alone also. That helped a lot.

Sweety is a beautiful 4 years old tabby kitty. He is the only male in the family and believe me he is very proud. He takes a very good care of the girls.

Sweety started to like Peter & tolerate Monica, so they tried bringing him in with Sammy. He hid under furniture & growled, reverting again. They tried a few times, but he would only behave when in his "house" in the garage.
He NEVER wanted out of it.

Monica again talked to April & Rachel. One suggestion was, give him a cage in the "house" in the middle of the house so he could see the other cats in the house, while feeling safe. It was only then that Monica was able to hold & cuddle him without wild looks. A week later, back to his garage house & the improvement held. Monica could still handle him.

A week later, they brought him & Sammy in a day (dog emergency) together with all the other cats. Sweety finally began to play with toys & showed interest in other cats. He did not hide for the first time. After a day, he started to run from them so they put him back in the garage house.

The following weekend, they brought him in for my visit. We know the rest. I and he fell in love and lived happily ever after! Monica was so surprised when he let me hold him, as he had never been at all friendly with new people. He growled at them but not at me.

Indy needs some help for surgery

TPLO surgery needed for our dog Missy, to cure a CCL injury in her leg

About 18 months ago we adopted our dog Missy. She was a rescue dog and was having trouble finding a home because of her separation anxiety (not surprising since she had been abandoned!). Our family adopted her and she has become the most loveable, easy-going companion we can imagine. She is part Lab and Greyhound, so she loves to run and jump. Her daily walks are the highlight of her day, especially when she sees the rabbits on our neighborhood trails! We recently discovered that her previous owners had not given her appropriate care and her hind legs had suffered ligament tears. They had healed, but caused her to get a limp when she ran too much. Recently she developed another limp that was not going away, and the vet said that she will need surgery to fix this problem. Right now she can't talk walks, run or move around, and this would continue if she doesn't have surgery. She is only 4 years old and is very active. She is the fastest dog at the dog park and loves to jump in the air to catch a ball in her mouth. We need to get the surgery done as quickly as possible, and the cost is $3,000 per leg. (We hope to do just one leg, but the vet has suggested that over time she will need both legs done.) We are in the process of raising money now garage sales, eBay, second job), and would like to get the surgery scheduled immediately. In addition, I was out of work for 10 months last year and have just recently gone back to work, so this surgery is taking a huge bite out of our finances. We so appreciate any assistance to get our dog back to being the dog she was meant to be!

My Best Friend Punkin needs surgery

My dog Punkin is a 3.5 lb 11 year old yorkie, he was injured last Friday when a mastiff stepped on him.
This dislocated his leg from his hip.
I took him to an emergency vet to the tune of over $1200 which I gladly gave my last dollar with the hope he would be taken care of. However they were unable to set his leg back into the hip joint. I took him to my regular vet today and he will need surgery to repair his leg.
I have only had Punkin for a year, I rescued him from a breeder who thought he was to old to continue breeding for her. Even though I have been his family only a small part of his life I love him with all my heart, and want to make his golden years the very best.
Both vets said he is in great health other than his leg and some very bad teeth which I would love to have taken care of at the same time.
I have listed my fundraiser for only 1/3 of the cost of surgery, I am doing everything I can to raise the other money, I am hoping to sell things around the house I can, and work saving my own money as well. I just do not think I will be able to raise everything Punkin will need in time and he deserves the very best I can give him. I am employed and work hard every day, just being a single Mom it doesn't allow for me to have a big savings for emergencies, and thank the Lord they do not come up often.
I promise every dollar kind folks find to pledge now for Punkins much needed surgery I will save and repay by making a donaton to our local animal shelter to hopefully help the next little guy in need.

More of the story since people are asking: This dog has been a loyal family member for over 9 yrs. They recently had a premature baby that almost died a few times. She has since been allowed to come home only after the Doctors told the family that the dog must go. The hair & dander is dangerous for this little baby. This family sent out a plea for help and no one stepped up....he was bashed too for giving up his dog. He tried rescues and shelters only to be told NO....who wants that old dog and one that is showing age in his hips. He is healthy as a horse otherwise. He is very loyal indeed.....he has already taken his place at my home protecting & serving my family. OH getting ahead here......My family had been looking for a dog when we saw this plea.....We are Christians and had lost our son at birth 9 yrs ago..so we knew what emotional roller-coaster this family was going thru. We felt a connection and reached out to them. Yes he is a bit older that did not matter....he is TERRIFIC!!! The owner drove over 1 1/2 hrs to bring him to us so that we could meet. His daughter got to come home and is doing well-so far. We only pray she continues. In the meantime they accumulated a million dollars in hospital bills and are trying to pay for that. We confirmed thru our vet that surgery would be an option to give him comfort & continued mobility in his later years. This owner was not given much hope for his best friend and was thinking of euthanizing him to be sure that he was in a better place than with the wrong family. We stepped up and are now his new owners. We adore him and he is loyal to us. This surgery is costly and we had hoped that people still cared enough for their fellow man & beast to help. I know that many of you would not have been so harsh if this was an animal cruely or neglect case that was in the news asking for donations. You folks are very twisted & two-faced. The dog cannot speak for himself so we must. If you can help-Thank you tons....if not-that is fine----no need to be ugly. South Portland, Maine family needs your help for dog’s surgery:

We have a beloved 4 year old shepard mutt, needing cruciate tear knee surgery costing $1,300-2,700. (He is scheduled for consult and xrays on the 17th and outcomes of that will determine actual cost.) Any donation you can give will be greatly appreciated.

Griffin is our son’s best buddy and was injured as a pup by aggressive dogs at the beach. His knee rallied for quite some time but has now worsened. Our vet assures us that with the surgery Griffin will have a long and lively life. In the current economy, some may question this huge expense for a pet. Our son who is 5 years old has special needs and has already lost a close animal friend he depended on. (His therapy horse at a riding facility.) We're hoping that with your help we can avoid adding any further losses/challenges to his already full plate. Griffin is gentle, patient and absolutely suited to life at our home. It would be more than we could undertake to try "replace" him with someone new.

We have always been committed to being lifetime owners of any pets we’ve had, and this is the first time we’ve had to ask for assistance to care for them. Our current economic situation is compromised due to serious health problems and the economy downturn, otherwise we’d fund this entirely ourselves. my dog has a oral miligant melanoma and needs surgery right away. The cancer is very aggressive. she is in pain right now and barely eating. you can see this in the pics I posted. The second one is the tumour how big it is. As you can see it is already going into her throat. Time is really running out, I need to get the surgery asap or I will soon have to put her down or she will choked to death.I can't afford 3500 dollars.this can be cured and she could live to a rip old age with your help.I am disable from diabetic compactions and heart disease and I am on a fixed income.I really live for my pet,she really brightens my days and makes the days more enjoyable to live.

Shorty's Spinal Surgery

All within just the last month I've learned that my Pug, Shorty, needs both spinal surgery and bladder stone surgery. I'm still paying for the emergency room vet bill for another Pug, Morty, that I lost last September, so money is tight. I started fund raising when I found out about the bladder surgery, knowing I didn't have the $$ for it, then I got the news about the spinal surgery, which has to be done first before they'll do the other one. It's also 5 to 10X more expensive. I took on cleaning 2 houses, sold things online, I'm sewing Pug quilts, Pug-fabric appliance covers, dog clothes, dog blankets, sports team blankets & quilts. I haven't solidified my latest idea, but I'm working with a couple of local bars/restaurants about holding casual fund-raising "parties" in which I invite people into their establishment. The business either donates food for a buffet, in which case the staff is donating a % of their tips, or people gamble or purchase beverages, or they have dinner, in which case the business donates a % of the sales. My "party" is income for the business that wouldn't otherwise be realized, nor would the staff be receiving the tips from the guests. I will also be having a small "auction table" in which there will be donated items that people can bid on, and a table of items that I made that can be purchased.

Help Bullmastiff "Stoli" Walk Again

Nobody is ever "ready" for tragedy, it just happens. When you least expect it, when you are least prepared, when things seem to be going well... tragedies can happen.

Our Handsome Stoli is currently suffering from unexplained trauma. Stoli was a dog who came to live with me in 2007 after his owner passed away in a vehicle incident. He had been here for two years when I decided it was time he find a family to call his own, to sleep with, play with and protect. What a gorgeous young dog, truely just beautiful, happy and healthy. He was placed into a new home thru referral of a friend on the first of February 2009. Within the first week, Stoli began showing symptoms of spinal trauma; wobbling, inability and discomfort upon rising, dragging his hind feet and knuckling over. His crying out, incontinence and rapid progression of his failing rear had his *new* owners return him to me without any diagnosis or report of anything "happening" to him during his 2.5 wk stay with them..

Veterinary Specialists are managing Stoli's condition as best as they know how.. Stoli's care has gone from tremendously exciting, a vibrant three year old male Bullmastiff with a heart filled with kindness and gentle love... to exhausting, a boy who can barely get up and walk to the yard and back.

Currently without diagnosis, Stoli suffers from spinal discomfort and neurological dysfunction, compromising his rear mobility and disabling him nearly 100%. His care and immediate medical needs exceed our current financial capability. His prognosis fortunately is good to fair.. improvement has been noticed in just the two days of his return home. Stoli's rear mobility is less uncoordinated and much more significant, just two days ago he was dragging both rear legs till his feet were bleeding. Now with assistance and proper care and housing (thank goodness he was returned home!!!) his legs are under him, he's able to stand, foot placement isn't correct but he's giving it his best shot. He refuses to give up now that he's back "home"!

Stoli's heart is big enough to walk on it's own. He's a three year young Bullmastiff, gorgeous, kind, tremendously animated and gentle. His current physical condition is heartbreaking and possibly temporary due to trauma (?). Could time, rest, proper care and medical attention help Stoli to recover completely? In just three weeks he went from an almighty mass of muscle who never had a bad day, to a handicapped heart throb who hopes there is enough help out there for him. Please help us with a bit of Stoli's medical costs!

There isn't a more deserving guy. Stoli's life has only just begun...he will stay here with us to have the BEST life we can offer him whether he heals completely or remains "handicapped". Thank you for your consideration... Updates will follow!

I am thrilled that my help "goal" has been nearly met, please CONTINUE to donate..maybe Stoli can reach the goal of an MRI to diagnose completely what is going on to cause his this incredible discomfort and immobility!! For now that is way off (financially). His immediate care is now possible with your help. Thank you thank you thank you.

Can you help me? My name is Katsumi. Several of us in different rescues who rescue this breed began to work together to help this girl who is 7-8 and needs a lot of work - from her eyes - to her immune system and to the fact we just found out she is high positive for heartworm. Yes I know she is an old dog - BUT she is a dog that has never been able in her whole life to feel freedom - to feel the touch of loving hands other than the vets and rescues working with her now. SHE DESERVES THAT NOW.

Many who have worked with the breed also believe that she may have VKH and we are planning on having her tested for that. We know that it is a lot for just one old dog - but our hearts bleed for this girl who still loves to do nothign but kiss and get attention - she deserves to know that food is a daily thing - that her owners, who are now in jail for animal cruelty, were wrong - she DOES NOT deserve to die not knowing what life is after enduring so many years chained and abused. Her eyes need a surgery that will literally remove the eyes and sew the lids shut. RIght now they are just oepn vessels for infection as they were never treated when she was younger. SO many of us workign together show the need for rescues uniting - we are doing that to save her - now we need your help - a dollar - or two or three. We are anxious to get her to the Sanctuary and begin some training and rehab for her and to show her what love is - we have a special place for her to be treated as the queen she should have always been.

Sheba's life up until now has been, I'm imagining, a living hell. She is 7-8 years old and has lived her entire life in an abusive home. Someone discovered her and took her away from there - her previous owner is in jail for aggravated cruelty, charges which Caddo Parish Animal Services in Shreveport, LA, have brought against him. They literally saved her life. They have said she can now go to a rescue. I have never seen an animal that has endured what she must have be as sweet as she is. She has no eyes and the vet says they were probably gouged out. Her fur is matted in spots - she is probably going to need to be shaved down. She licks all over your hand, begging for attention. She sits in her run at the shelter and howls the most mournful howl I've ever heard.

I don't know how many more years she has left, but doesn't she deserve the chance to know what happiness and kindness is? She is kennel trained and shows no food aggression at all. Please, can anyone help her? I've attached pictures of her that I got today. I will try and get better ones tomorrow.

Burned Momma Dog

I AM BEGGING AGAIN........I live in a very poor, rural area, and volunteer for Arrf (Animal Relief & Rescue Fellowship) in Leland, Mississippi.
This poor, homeless momma dog was taking refuge at a rural house outside of Leland, Mississippi, when a fire broke out and engulfed the entire home.........unfortunately, she had just delivered EIGHT puppies! When the fire was first noticed by her, she began taking her babies out of the fire, one by one. She went back and forth, inside and outside of the home, until ALL eight of her babies were out of harm's way.
Now named April, she somehow managed to rescue each and every one of her babies, although none survived due to the smoke inhalation they endured. Even Dr. Wilkerson was amazed at her continuous persistence in the face of pain............her hair was singed, there were burns all over her body, the pads of her feet were burned off and she had severe smoke inhalation....all in her vain efforts to save her newborn babies.
How many others would have endured the pain April endured trying to save her babies? I wouldn't want to face the same obstacles as April did.........now, not only is she homeless, but she is also ALONE.......her babies did not survive! The good news is that April is doing GREAT but needs a forever home.......can you please help her find a good home?

URGENT! Need home SINGELE PET home for F/Spayed springer spaniel in Columbia SC

This is an emotionally/behavior disorder dog. She is an original Handipets Rescue that now needs more help. Please read the following with an open mind. Annie is not a brute. She just needs to be in a home with no other animals, and in an an area where she can run in a back yard with no other animals nearby. She would NOT be a good city pet. Annie really needs to be in a rural setting and that is something nobody in our family can provide for her.

Annie has quite a story to tell. Her life began as an abandoned pup. Eyes just barely open. Found in a clay pit, cold, hungry and unpottied. We took her in and hand nursed and raised her into a healthy dog. We were unable to keep little Annie though. Our county has a restriction on dogs and we could only have 4 dogs. Annie needed a home. My sister kindly took Annie in and things were wonderful for quite some time.

Later, my sister adopted another dog who had been mistreated and was in need of a good home. Molly a beautiful young boxer came to live with my sister and all was well for a few months....

But Annie Changed.

Annie became highly aggressive toward Molly. My sister worked with the dogs but fights became death matches. Unwilling to give up on either of these beautiful creatures my sister saved up money and called in a professional to work with Annie. This did not work out. My sisters yard is much too small for Annie to run freely, she is hostile to the neighbors dogs through the fence, unsafe to walk with other dogs around so Annie cannot be properly exercised outside, and she is dangerous to other animals inside.

After over a year of trying to work through this situation a horrible fight broke out between Annie and Molly last night causing injury to both dogs and to my mother and sister who tried to break them up. Aside from Molly the boxer there are two senior dachshunds in the home who are also at risk.

Sadly my sister now knows that Annie cannot live with other animals, cannot use her back yard and cannot be walked. This is no life for Annie and the other animals in the home should not be abused by Annie.

Annie needs a home as as SINGLE PET. She has never harmed a human. When I had Annie she never harmed a cat but because she has grown aggressive with other dogs I would not recommend her as a pet in a cat family and would be concerned about her around small children. She has no history of harming children but her fierce fights against other dogs would make me concerned.

Annie needs a good place to run. We have never chained our dogs, they have always had space to run, but when neighbors complain that your dog barks viciously over a fence at their dogs....that is a problem. If you have a privacy fence, or no nearby neighbors Annie would do great in your back yard. She loves to run and play.

My sister worked and was gone about 12 hours a day. Annie had been left home while she was at work and there was never a problem. When I had her we could leave her home as well. Annie would work out well for working families.

This is an <b><i>URGENT</i></b> plea for a home for Annie. If one is not found within a week this sweet dog will need to be put to sleep. All other things have been tried. She has been spayed, has been on benedryl to help calm her, herbals have been tried, she has been examined by a vet and is healthy. A professional trainer has come to the home to help, the house has been divided and more humans moved in to help keep things safe. Sadly all attempts have failed. Annie is a danger to other dogs and simply needs a rural home where she is the only pet.

Annie has never been abused from the day she was rescued. We are unsure of what drives this emotional disorder, could it be because she was hand nursed? Most do not agree, but that seems to be the only thing different about her life. She had no young pups to play with and the older dogs did try to put her in the rear of the pack...could that be it? If we had the answers I'm sure we could solve this problem, but sadly we know only this. Annie is not safe around other dogs, but she is a wonderful and loyal companion to humans. She deserves to live her natural days on earth in a home where she is the only canine companion to her human.

If you have room in your heart and home for a dog who is known to be dangerous around other dogs...but is the sweetest loving creature to humans, is house broken, spayed, healthy and does not destroy your home...please contact me here or at handipets@comcast.net

Stewie the rescued pug needs your help to get hip and knee surgery

We posted this not long ago but were not able to raise enough so we are trying again! We are grateful to everyone who pledged last time, it's heartwarming to know that there are so many kind people out there who are willing to help others! God bless you all.

Stewie is a 5 year old pug we rescued 2 years ago from a backyard breeder who dumped him off because she thought he was too big and didn't like his coat coloring. When we got him, he had open sores all over his body, he was partially deaf because his ear drums had ruptured due to chronic untreated infections and his joints were severely worn down because of years of confinement.

It took a lot of work, love and patience and eventually we taught him to walk on a leash, sit patiently for his meals, potty trained him and he has a handful of tricks that he's mastered. He also loves to hike! He is quite an attention getter when we hit the trails(it's not often you see a pug on a mountain), as of today he has about 7 hikes under his belt on 5 different mountains. His greatest acheivement was completing a 14 mile hike with a grueling elevation gain and horrendous switchbacks, when he got to the top he spent the next 20 minutes rolling around in wild flowers and enjoying the spectacular view! Stewie also enjoys the dog park and loves it when we go on random walks through the forest where he can explore and chase squirrels.

Sadly though, a few months ago Stu began to limp every now and then. We put him on glucosamine and chondroiton, anti-inflammatory medication and when he was in a lot of pain we gave him tramadol. He seemed to be doing O.K. for a while until about 2 months ago when he could barely make it out to go to the bathroom. We took him back to the vet and after xrays, they found that his hip was popping out of place because the ball joint was not fitting into the socket, they also found that he had a luxated patella. We had a surgery date set up for him, but our kitten required 2 major surgeries, and right after that our dog required emergency vet care. Needless to say that the money that was for Stu's surgery was used up, and then some. Luckily Stewie will not have to get a total hip replacement. The vet believes that by shaving the ball joint down (femoral head ostectomy), it will fit into the socket and will be held in place by the surrounding tendons, this along with the knee surgery should will allow him to function like he did before. The most important part is that he will not be in constant pain like he is now.

We tried care credit but were not able to get it, we applied to numerous rescue organizations but were turned down either because Stu's case was not life threatening or because they were out of funding. We were however, granted $100 from concern for animals, which we are grateful for. The surgery for his knee and hip was estimated at $1300, we are trying to raise half of that because thats what the vet requires, and then they'll let us make payments on the other half. We posted on Fundable, but were not able to raise enough so we are trying again.

After everything he has gone through, he is still the sweetest dog who has a lot of spunk left in him. Our goal is to get Stewie well again so he can enjoy this second chance at life to it's fullest.

We named her Iceey because when she was rescued at about 6 wks old, her eyes were a Siamese blue. Now her eyes are golden but Iceey stuck. A dog or something injured her & we were afraid she wouldn't survive. She had no movement or feeling in her backend & tail. She swam for therapy to strengthen her back & back legs & eventually crawled & relearned how to walk. Now she is just like any other kitten her age.
I've been able to put her on a schedule for expressing the urine & feces about 4 times a day & at night she wears a diaper. She is very social & wants to be with us 24/7. She loves to be held & cuddled. She travels well & doesn't mind if strangers hold or pet her. She goes to our adoptions on the weekends & always has a crowd around her. She does well with other kittens or small dogs ( after a getting to know you period ) & loves to play soccer. She can open sliding patio doors, pocket doors, cabinets & drawers with just a little figuring out. She is such a sweet playful kitten & we love her dearly. She has had all of her kitten & rabies vaccines, is microchipped & has been spayed. Her tail was amputated with the spaying for her health & safety, the feeling never returned to most of her tail. So here's the deal.. Rescued this cute white female kitten with one blue eye and one green eye. So the green eye turned brown, and the cat started become a little "wild". She was a sweet kitten but soon turned skittish. After looking closely at her eyes, the blue eye's pupil is not as defined as the other eye. We KNOW the cat is blind in the blue eye. We are looking to adopt her out to a home that is either looking for a cat that requires no attention, just food and occasional love *on her terms*. Sometimes when laying down she will approach you and give you love, but if you expect her to hang out with you, you're wrong. We are trying to find this cat a home, otherwise she will go to the pound and be euthanized. Please help this cat.

Rosie's Rescue/meds for rescued dog with diabetes and cushings syndrome

Rosie is an 11 year old shepherd, collie, golden retriever mix.
Several months ago she was diagnosed with diabetes and I have been
giving her insulin shots, RD Science diet to help her lose weight (she
has lost 20 lbs.)and periodic blood work.

Today I took her to our vet because she had diarrhea and he gave
her diphox to stop diarrhea, metronidazole, and thyrosyn because she is
hypo thyroid. He says that dogs, etc. with diabetes often get sick.

In two days she will spend 8 hours at the vet's getting testing
for Cushings Syndrome, although he is 90% sure she has it. Then, if it
is confirmed, she will begin Lysodren 500 mg, 3-6 a day for 7-10 days
and 3-6 pills every 2-3 days lifelong. According to our local Sam's
club a bottle of 30 pills is $139. And she would continue on thyrosyn,
etodolac for pain, insulin and frequent blood work.

Dr. Cramer said treating Cushings at the same time as treating
diabetes is a little tricky due to the need for monitoring blood sugar
level variables.

Rosie has had a rough life with many physical and emotional
challenges. When we rescued her she had been hit by a car. A year later
she got out of our mini ranch yard with her dog friends and got hit on
Hwy 15. Her friend Tazia was killed. Rosie was picked up by animal
control and they kept her there with a broken leg and no medications
for three days while she waited. They said no dogs with her descritpion
had been picked up. Three or four years later she got tumor in the same
foot and had two toes removed. Last summer she was diagnosed with
diabetes. She misses living on our mini ranch and the ranch my
ex-husband moved to after our divorce. She could ot stay there because
he got a dog that tried to kill other female dogs.
I keep seeing her in my mind's eye running and playing like she
did 8 years ago. I want to give her every opportunity for that to
happen.

Her mate, Gravy, died last March. I have another dog, Winnie,
about 10 years old, two cats, a pond full of ducks------and a teenage
daughter.
We have been fighting our lender (with the help of a consumer
advocate and a law firm) to stay in the house. But like so many people,
we are trying hard to stay afloat.

I have informally started a Rosie's Rescue in Murrieta, CA. I feel
passionately about eliminating pet overpopulation, placing homeless
dogs and cats, etc., preventing cruelty and saving dogs from euthansia
because their owners can't afford the bills. I have witnessed this too
many times. At this point, however, I am not a non-profit and have no
funds of my own.

I have started selling my mandala art in the form of greeting
cards, postcards and coloring card kits (great for kids of all ages) to
see if I can raise anything that way.

It is clear that she needs to get started with her Cushings
medicine now. Our vet says the cushings medication will help with
diabetes and certain other organ failure.

Stewie needs your help for hip and knee surgery

Our
goal is to raise $800 in 2 weeks so Stewie to get his hip and knee
surgery. In return I will continue to donate on this site whenever
possible and spread the word to friends and family!

Stewie is a 5 year old pug that we rescued two years ago. when we
got him he had open sores all over his body and festering ear
infections in both years. He suffered from severe allergies, ruptured
ear drums from infections left untreated and anxiety. After rescuing
him we poured everything we had to get him better and for the last year
and half he has enjoyed hiking, weekly trips to the dog park (when its
not raining, good ol' washington weather!) and walks around the lake.

However, a couple of months ago we noticed that he was limping
slightly and we took him to the vet. After a check-up and x-rays, the
vet determined that the ball joint in his hip no longer fit into the
socket properly, along with that he had a luxated patella. Being a
fairly young dog, theres no doubt that this was related to
irresponsible breeding, neglect and lack of veterinary care. Since then
we have put him on glucosamine and when it gets really bad he takes
tramadol. Initially there was some improvement, but almost suddenly
within the last month he has a constant limp and can hardly make it
outside to use the bathroom.

We have contacted multiple animal rescues but most of the ones we
contact are out of funding, we did recieve $100 dollars from concern
for animals, but the surgery is estimated at around $1300, so we still
have a long way to go.

my husband and I both work and have always been self sufficient,
it's just very overwhelming right now because we recently rescued a
kitten who required enucletion (eye removal) and a laproscopic surgery,
AND our other dog had to go in right after.
So it's been 3 huge vet bills one right after another, and with
the economy the way it is it's impossible to get assistance anywhere
and I feel like we can barely keep our heads above water.

So now, Stewie finds himself at the mercy of kind people everywhere
who will pitch in so that he can once again do the things that he
loves. It's heartbreaking to see him try to do the things he used to
and he can't, if he is able to get this surgery he should be able to
function like he did before, please help stewie so he can enjoy this
second chance at life!

Rescued Poodle Needs Multiple Surgeries

Muffy came in as a stray to a high kill shelter in Jefferson County.
She was badly matted and infested with fleas but everyone fell in love
with her sweet personality. Potential adopters passed her by as she had
a large tumor on her belly. Another rescue was to take her but they
failed to show up on her "due out" date. This happened to be Christmas
Eve and the shelter was closing early. We could not stand the thought
of this beautiful girl being left at the shelter until the following
Monday and risking euthanasia so a volunteer transporter, Terri
Metzger, made the trip out to get her just before the shelter closed.
Muffy went into one of our foster homes and was taken to the vet as
soon as possible for vaccinations, spay and removal of the tumor. We
prayed the tumor would be benign but the pathology came back with
cancerous cells present. Because this was a mammary tumor the best
course of action to prevent a recurrence is to remove the remaining
mammary glands, basically performing a radical masectomy. During the
prior surgery it was also discovered Muffy had 2 broken molars. The
nerves are exposed, which can be quite painful, and she will need a
root canal on both.

Since they are located far back in the mouth pulling them would be
difficult and the cost would be close to what a root canal would run so
we have opted to try and save the teeth. Muffy is a young dog and we
feel she deserves every chance for a full and happy life. She loves to
cuddle and dances around on her hind legs for a treat or whenever she
wants attention. We've already spent $300.00 for her first surgery and
other medical needs and have gotten an estimate of $1,189.00 for the
radical mastectomy and root canals. I have set the fundable goal low as
we won't recieve anything if the goal is not reached but we are allowed
to go over it and hope we do! The pledges start at just $10.00 but you

Please help me help my puppy

I
adopted my 11 month old labbe puppy ( Labrador / Beagle ) mix from a
rescue when he was 3 months old. He is the greatest dog in the world. I
can't believe that he was almost put down. (BTW this particular shelter
GASSES dogs!!!!) He had severe food intolerances and ear infections.
After a lot of time, patience, and vet visits, he is as good as gold.
Almost. Unfortunately, he developed a luxating patella. Basically, his
kneecap is dislocated and hangs outside of his knee socket. It is
extremely painful for him. He mostly hops on three legs. His bent leg
is shown in the picture. It stays in that position. If let go, the
problem will go worse and he will likely become lame at some point. I
have found a surgeon who can do the surgery but it costs at least $1800
for the surgery, not including x-rays, follow up, etc. I have some
money left in my account, but like most of us in this economy, I am
struggling. My parents and a few friends have offered to help but I am
still $600 short. I am desperate for him to have this surgery so that
he won't use the use of his leg. Please help us. Any help is so

I WISH for help to pay for my little dogs surgery.

Hi my name is Sabrina and my chihuahua Kai needs surgery on her back
legs. A few mths. back I was injured at work and had to have three
reconstuctive surgeries. While recovering from my work injuries I was
laid off. Now with no job I can't pay for the vet bill. I have put off
getting the surgery for my dog for as long as I could. One of her legs
may be too far gone but the Dr. wants to do surgery on the other so
that she'll have at least one strong good leg. I found a Dr. who will
do the surgery for 1,500. That is much better than the 2,500 to 4,000
that others quoted me.
I hate being in the position of asking for
help but I can't stand to see her in pain. I would be forever greatful
for any help that you can give. Kai is my little buddy and she has been
by my side though all of my surgeries and I feel horrible for having to
put hers off for so long so anything would be helpful.

Helping Levi with damaged his meniscus or a ligament

Levi
is the oldest of my two beagles. I have had him since he was 9 weeks
old and is going to be 4 this April. Levi has been in perfect health up
to this point. He is a very loving, affectionate, stubborn little guy
and is always happy. Recently he started to limp and eventually not
walk at all on his back left knee. After a 300.00 doctor visit and
xrays the vet tells me that Levi has most likely damaged his meniscus
or a ligament. Levi is slowly getting worse and keeping him still and
inside is a harder task than it sounds. Anyone who has owned a hunting
dog can relate. He no longer steps on the leg and cannot get up on even
small things like the step from one room to the other. He is
uncomfortable sitting and laying and he has to lay down to eat. This is
tough for him seeing as he is normally hyper and active and always in
the yard with his younger brother. While there are a few options that I
was given by various vets and specialist to fix Levi's leg, the
cheapest, most effective one will cost me anywhere from $1800 - 3600.
Not to mention follow up visits and post-op meds/care. I can normally
take care of all my animal expenses but this is a a huge one that I
cannot do in a timely manner. I have tried all the animal aid places
out there and because it is not life threatening they cannot help me. I
was denied Credit Care, and cannot find a single vet in the NorthWest
that will allow me to make payments. I never imagined I would have to
ask for help to make my beloved friend at least comfortable again. Any

Clyde is a 10 week old puppy. In the early hours of Jan 15th he was

Please help save the lives of six feral cats

My name is Judy Barre' and I am a feral cat caregiver. One of my neighbors
began trapping my cats about two months ago and bringing them to the
local shelter. I was able to identify them but not bring them back
home. I was required to board them in a private kennel. In the last
couple of months I have incurred more than $4,000 in credit card debt
on boarding, redemption fees and veterinary care. Four of the six cats
have been returned to the local shelter because I could no longer pay
for private boarding. The other two are still at Southern Animal
Foundation on Magazine Street because they had become ill and required
medical treatment. I feared that if they had been returned to the
shelter, they would have been euthanized. I love these cats and all the
neighborhood ferals so much that I remained in New Orleans during
Hurricanes Katrina and Gustav to take care of them. I am willing to
make whatever sacrifices are necessary to make sure that these cats are

My Toy Poodle Needs Surgery..Please Help!!

I have a toy poodle named Monaco. He recently dislocated his hip and

Guinness needs help!

(my darling black lab) had emergency surgery this past Saturday. She
had a growth on her liver that burst and was bleeding into her belly.
It was touch and go all weekend but she made it through surgery and is
stable enough to come home soon. She is at UPenn in ICU right now and
they are absolutely fantastic there. My baby has been through a lot.
She came to me through lab rescue as an 8 week old puppy who was about
to be drowned by her back yard breeder b/c she was the runt and "not
even pet quality". She has had 2 orthopedic surgeries and 2 mass cell
tumors removed in her 8 years of life. I thought we were finally in the
clear and over all her obstacles. So far the prognosis looks good and
she can go back to chasing sticks, swimming in the creek and running
away from the cat!

I got together enough money to leave the 50% deposit of $3000
(barely) but am now scrambling for the rest. I'm trying to convince my
credit card company to up my limit so I can at least get her out of
there and home with me. I normally do not ask for help but I don't know
what else to do. Her past vet bills have left me with a $10,000 credit
card debt but there was no way I wasn't going to do the surgery and let
her die after all she has been through. I know we always donate for our
fosters and ones that come through our different rescues so I'm asking

Simba's Surgery

is an abandoned 5 month-old kitten recovering from a major surgery to
repair a crushed and broken hind leg after being run over by a car.
Simba is very sweet and affectionate. The clinical staff at Davis
Companion Animal Hospital, located in Woodbury, CT, thinks he is a very
special and lovable cat! His veterinary expenses have already exceeded
$2,000.00. Simba still needs a minimum of four weeks of rest and the
prognosis of his leg will be assessed to determine whether he will need
further surgery. There is still a possibility that he could lose his

Please help this cat have the surgery he needs

you for reading our story. Kimba aka "the white lion" is a 1-year-young
lovable lap cat that my best friend rescued after he had been abused
and abandoned. Recently she returned home from work and found him
laying on the floor crying in pain. He couldn't move without crying.
She rushed him to the animal hospital and After several trips to the
Vet since then and many dollars later, we found out that he has 2
broken legs/joints at the area of his hips. They said judging by the
deterioration of the bones and the loose fragments of the bones (which
is what's causing him the pain), the injuries are old and are likely
from the abuse he suffered. The Vet has given him clearance of making a
full recovery with surgery to remove the broken bones and fragments.
Doing this will allow his muscles to take over for him to still be able
to use his legs, as they have already started to do so. My friend has
already spent alot of money on tests and xrays to find out what was
wrong with him and now she is told that the surgery will be another
$2500. Kimba is running out of time because he can only stay on pain
meds for so long and now her resources have run out as well. Her
personal finances have fallen behind because she is sooo very dedicated
to Kimba and the most UN-selfish woman I've ever met. She has done
everything she can to keep him comfortable and happy during this time.
I've never seen such a bond between two friends as I've seen between
her and Kimba.

Kimba has an adorable personality of a kitten. He's sooo playful
and loving. He is still full of life and has so much love to give. But
time is running out. His appetite has started to decrease from being on
the pain meds. The vet says he can't stay on them much longer because
they can give him stomach problems and we're afraid that's starting to
happen so time is of the essence. If Kimba doesn't get his surgery
soon, life will cease for him and my friend will have to lay him to
rest.... which is what she is trying to avoid having to do.Especially
since he's still so young and vibrant. Maybe you've had to face the
pain of not being able to save a pet of your own and you know what
she's feeling....so maybe you can help save Kimba and feel the warmth
in your heart that he shares with everyone. Please help keep that
warmth going and pitch in just that little bit to help save him from
crossing Rainbow Bridge. If you've lost a pet, I'm sure you know the
bridge I'm talking about. It's way too soon for him to walk that path
so please help.

Please ask yourself...What would you feel like if you had a pet
that could be healed and saved, but you didn't have enough money to do
it? I'm sure at some point in each of our lives...we've all had someone
there that came into our lives and helped. Maybe this is a way for each
of us to pay it forward...by giving this lovable and adorable family
member the gift of living out his full life and to be healthy and play
normal again.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If my friend comes up with at least half of the
$2500 for the surgery, the vet will allow her to make monthly payments
on the rest. This is why I've set the limit for less then full amount.
However, please remember, we can all continue to donate

even after she hits this llimit and the more help she receives for Kimba, the easier it will be for the two of them.

Dog with fatal Diabetic Ketoacidosis needs your help

My husband and I have been thrilled after adopting 4 month old terrier/ spaniel mix Chewey from a shelter a couple of months ago. He was an adorable and sweet puppy that seemed to be mellow and calm. We patiently tried to housebreak him and tried to feed him all the right foods so that he could be a healthy and happy puppy. After constant peeing accidents at home, constant drinking and slow weight loss we feared that Chewey ( now named Jack) was not well.

We took Jack to the vet, and was alarmed to find that Jack was completely malnourished due to parasites. Afraid that Jack could not handle any antibiotics or vaccinations, the veterinarian decided to delay bloodwork until after treatment of the parasites. A month later, after treating the parasites we took Jack back to the vet for an urinalysis and blood work. Today the CBC and urinalysis came back, and to our dismay we discovered that our beloved 6 month old puppy could at any moment fall into a coma and subsequently die! Jack has an extremely high level of ketones ( Diabetic Ketoacidosis or DKA) most likely from diabetes mellitus.

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic condition in which a deficiency of the hormone insulin impairs the body's ability to metabolize sugar. DKA is a life-threatening condition caused by diabetes mellitus resulting from insulin deficiency that leads to excess production of ketoacids by the liver. Subsequent changes in the blood result that includes metabolic acidosis, electrolyte abnormalities producing severe signs of systemic illness. Jack has high levels of glucose in his urine, low levels of sodium, dehydration ( despite constant drinking) and lowered red blood cell count. His diabetes mellitus is so far undiagnosed that he is at this very second in danger of dying.

My husband and I are deeply upset and mortified at this situation. We had thought that we had adopted a healthy but calm ( sometimes too calm puppy) but now realize that what we have is a sick and lethargic puppy that needs immediate treatment. Our puppy is so weak that he barely moves to greet us or eat. We would love to provide this treatment and to make our loving puppy be a healthy puppy. We wished that we were made aware of this illness sooner. We do not blame the shelter or the foster parents of his condition, however, if we were warned of any abnormalities to his health and behavior, we would have still adopted him but would have diagnosed him and treated him for diabetes mellitus immediately. From his disease not being treated in a timely manner, he is so sick that normal insulin will not save him. Now we are left with an already increasing veterinary bill, and an emergency treatment that we cannot afford. At this point, his diabetes has created so many complications that Jack is in immediate need of a 24 hour hospitalization and surveillance in which In-hospital therapy generally includes insulin administration with frequent dose adjustment, intravenous fluids, administration of electrolytes (blood chemicals), treatment of secondary problems, and antibiotics.It is also necessary to perform ultrasounds and/or X-Rays to rule out any cancers affecting the kidneys, livers and/or pancreas.

I am a recent college graduate and my husband is in the military, we want to raise Jack to become a healthy dog with any disease under control, however, we do not have the funds available for this initial 24 hour stabilization, treatment and proper diagnosis. We want Jack to live as long as possible but there is no way that we can undergo the necessary hospitalization without any help. I am upset that his diabetes was untreated and unmanaged, and undetected for so long that it has come to this. If it was noticed and detected earlier, this hospitalization would not have to take place. Now Jack is in imminent danger and we are left with nothing to do but to watch him die unless some help comes along. We have contacted Friendship Animal Hospital ( the only recommended referral for internal veterinarian medicine and 24 hour surveillance medical center in our area) and the cost of Jack to stay over night with proper diagnosis and treatment would be well over $2000.

My husband and I are in desperate need to raise this money for Jack but we cannot do this without help. We need assistance in obtaining financial assistance and monetary help. Friendship Animal Hospital does not provide any sort of payment plan or discount that could help us. We need your help to raise our puppy to become a happy, energetic and plump dog.

I WISH to find help so that I can give my rescue dog a much needed surgery

Hi. I have a dog that I adopted from a shelter in Utah in February of
2008. She came in off the streets as an abandoned stray. She was thin,
scared, and sick with mange that had made her partially bald on her
back. I had been going to the shelter to walk the dogs nearly every day
and fell in love with this little black pit-bull mix. The shelter had
made the hard decision to euthanize her due to her poor health which
made her “unadoptable”. I decided to take her home and give
her a second chance. I named her Oakley, after the great Annie Oakley.
She made a very quick recovery from the mange and kennel cough. She
went through a stint of other medical issues but with some vet care and
lots of love she overcame them all. Now, however, she has a medical
issue that I simply cannot pay for on my own. She has torn several
ligaments in her back leg/knee and needs extensive orthopedic surgery.
The veterinarian that administered the exam and x-rays estimated that
the surgery will cost $3,500-$5,500. That estimate doesn’t even
include the follow-up exams and rehabilitation therapy that Oakley will
need. If she doesn’t get this surgery it will shorten her life
dramatically because as soon as she tears the ligaments in the other
back leg due to the extra stress that is put on it there may be nothing
else anyone can do for her. I am desperate and I don’t want to
lose the dog whose life I saved just a year ago. I think she is almost
2 years old but perhaps a little younger and she has so much life still
left in her. I know she is going to be costly with her lifetime
supplements but she is worth it. I just can't imagine losing her now.
After all these treatments and months together she deserves to have
this surgery. I hate that I can't take care of her by myself because so
far I have been able to. I saved her life once but now I need others to

Please Help Ivy she was hit by a car

Ivy
is incredibly lucky to be alive right now. Believe it or not, Ivy was
run over by a car. She crawled up on a woman's doorstep and just wagged
her tail. She had apparently suffered all night long before she was
able to make it to the vet.

This sweetie has been through so much.

It turns out that Ivy broke BOTH rear legs (4 bones total). Ivy was
transferred to another animal hospital where she underwent surgery to
repair both legs. Everyone that meets her is absolutely amazed with how
sweet she is, despite being in so much pain.

Ivy has now been through THREE surgeries to repair her legs at the cost of $2300.00. We need your help to pay her bill.

Ivy is just one of many special medical need pups that we have put
back together. Our vet bills currently exceed $10,000.00 and as a city
shelter, we just do not have the funds to keep on going like this.

Although we are a municipal shelter, we try to save every dog that
comes through our doors no matter what their injuries or illnesses may
be. If we do not receive some major financial assistance soon, we are
not going to be able to continue to save as many as we do.

Ivy is currently living in a small cage at the vet's office because
we have no foster homes available for her. In addition to your

10 mo. old Border Collie Hit by Truck

Ali finally got to come home today! She spent the past 8 days at The
Pet Hospital in Bessemer City. She was anemic from her injury so had to
have a blood transfusion from a sweet donor dog to enable her to have
her surgery. However, once the vet started the surgery, he found that
her femur was too shattered to repair so he had to remove her leg. It
was sad news for Christopher and his family but at least Ali will be
able to recover and hopefully, live a long happy life. Christopher
learned at tough lesson and knows now that he must be very careful and
always take Ali out on a leash unless she is in a fenced yard. The
Bostwicks want to thank the staff and Dr. Nuemzic for taking such good
care of Ali. The comments from the team were all about how sweet Ali is
and what a good dog she is. She will have some healing time but the
prognosis is that she will be back to her playful self in a couple
weeks or so and the Dr. bet Christopher that she'd be outrunning him
within a year!
Thank you for reading about Ali and every dollar donated is very
much appreciated. The bill ended up being a little over $900 so we've
updated the amount needed. It is a very busy and expensive time of year

Ali, a 10 month old Border Collie, belongs to Christopher.
Christopher recently lost his job and then couldn't afford his
apartment so moved in with his Granddad, but Granddad was allergic to
Ali. Christopher has been searching for a job but hasn't had a lot of
luck but has been finding odd jobs refinishing wood floors, his
previous profession. So, he and Ali went back home to stay for a while.
The whole family loves animals and Christopher, who was diagnosed with
diabetes as a young teen, was saved by the family's dog when he started
going into a diabetic coma.
Christopher took Ali out to potty before going to bed as he had
done where he previously lived with her - off leash -but something
caught her eye and she walked out into the road and a speeding truck
came out of nowhere, hit her, and drove off without even slowing down.

Ali was taken to the emergency animal hospital and fortunately,
only her leg was broken. But, her femur is broken in 5 places so the
options are to either have surgery to have a plate put in which will
allow her to heal and eventually, return to the happy, playful puppys
she is. The second option is to amputate. Both are costly but the
surgery has been quoted at $1300 and this cost has been verified by
another vet as being a fair cost.
So, we are trying to raise money to help Ali keep her leg and
mend her as well as Christopher's broken heart. His Mom is due to have
a baby any day now but she wants to help save Ali's leg, too, and is
paying for Ali's stay at the vet hospital this weekend to make sure she
is stable enough to have the surgery on Monday 12/15.

Kimba needs Surgery because of being Abused and Abandoned. Please Help!!

meet my very special cat...Kimba (the white lion). He was Abandoned
last winter, when he was approx 3-4 months old . I rescued him and He
is now 1 year old. He has been my best friend and brought me nothing
but joy. He has been such a positive and happy part of my life,
especially since I've been battling a long rough road with some
personal hardships.

I recently rushed Kimba to the vet because he couldn't get up.
After an extensive examination and xrays (which I've already paid for),
the vet has determined he has 2 broken/crushed joints near the hip area
and said they've been broken for a very long time because the bones
(joints) have literally deteriorated and there are some fragments
floating around his hip area that are causing him terrible pain. (this
is enough proof for me that the idiots that abandoned him also abused
him!!) He is now on pain meds, because the pain is the ONLY thing
stopping him. During examination, the vet found that his tissues and
muscles have taken over the movement of his legs, replacing the joint
usage and thats why all this time (even throughout all his regular
check-ups) he's never shown anything was wrong and has been acting
normally. However, the bones have become so bad, the pain is now too
much for him to bare.

Unfortunately he can't stay on the pain meds for more then 30 days,
because they can give him a bleeding ulcer and he can die, as well as
he can die from the pain because he won't be able to eat or function
from it. The vet said the humane thing to do would be surgery to remove
whats left of the broken joints and fragments that are causing the
pain. She guaranteed if we get the surgery done, he'll be able to
continue to live and function normally....running, jumping, playing and
just being his lovable sweet self. If we don't do the surgery then he
will die from the meds/pain or I will have to euthanize him and I DON'T
want to do that!! He deserves to continue to live a happy life...where
he is loved and appreciated more then anyone can imagine!!

Please find it in your heart to help me give him back the happiness
he has given me. I'm still trying to get back on my feet, so I can't
afford to pay for the entire surgery. The total cost for both legs to
be done is $2600. I need to come up with at least half ($1300 ) and the
vet will let me make monthy payments after that........So PLEASE help
me!!! I don't want to let him down like those idiots did when they
threw him out.....and that was after who knows what kind of abuse they
did to him!!! So....please find it in your heart to give just one more
gift during this holiday season and contribute to help save Kimba. His
name so suits him....he is as strong as any "lion" I've ever seen to
endure what he's gone through!!

Pancreatitis treatment for Kiki

Kiki was transferred to the Seattle Veterinary Specialists
(www.svsvet.com) from the VCA Five Corner. She had surgery last Sunday
for a pancreatitis, which led to sepsis in her system. Prior to the
transfering, Dr. gave us 3 options:

1. Surgery

2. Keep current treatment, which Kiki doesn't response to it.

3. Stop everything.

Since Kiki has always been a sweet dog since we adopted her from the
shelter in 2004, we decided to do everything that we could to save her.
Therefore, we transported her to Seattle Veterinary Specialists, where
the surgery took place. Before the surgery, they found fluid in her
stomach. Dr. Michael Mison was her surgeon. After the surgery was done,
Dr. did not know what caused the infection since Kiki has been on a
special diet food (the WD + Innova). Kiki is still in critical
condition. Therefore, she has to stay in the hospital for a while with
the additional amount of $1,200 - $1,500 per 24hr. We are running out
money for Kiki's hospital bill. We would greatly appreciate any
assistance through this difficult time. Kiki is currently staying at
the Seattle Veterinary Specialists in Kirland, WA.

Jezzy is Half-Way There!

Jezzy is a 25-lb. Australian Shepherd who loves to dance on her
back legs! She is around 2 years old, and was found earlier this year
as a stray at Ft. Hood, TX. She was due to be euthanized but one of the
vet techs couldn't let that happen, and took her home. She was not able
to keep her, however, so Jezzy made her way to Austin Aussie Rescue. From September though October, she participated in a training program at Triple Crown Academy in Hutto, TX.

On November 14, Jezzy went to daycare at Taurus Training and Doggy Play Day with her foster brother, Indy.
Somehow their leashes entangled getting out of the car, and in a freak
accident, Jezzy ended up with a serious spiral fracture to both the
tibia and fibia (upper and lower leg bones).

She had surgery on Monday, November 17, at the Central Texas Veterinary Specialty Hospital and we are now paying off our bills of over $2,000.
The good news is the surgery went well and the vet believes she has a
good chance for a full recovery. Her two-week checkup looked good and
her doctor was pleased with her progress. Jezzy still has five more
weeks of crate rest. Her foster family is dedicated to keeping her
quiet so her bones can heal properly. We did collect $850 from a previous Fundable and over $200 in checks.

We are asking for your help to contribute toward Jezzy's vet
bills so we can see her dancing again -- in a few more weeks! And, once

Destiny injured 8wk kitten found on tollway

Destiny
is an 8 week old kitten tortiseshell that most likely was warming
herself on someones car engine when they took off for work last
Wednesday. We found her stumbling around on the on Marengo on ramp for
I-90 with a bloody nose and mouth and injury to her rear end and tail.

She was taken immediately to one of our local vets and after
careful exam and xrays was treated for a degloved tail and shock. After
a week of hoping we could save the tail it 1/2 of it had to be
amputated this Saturday 12-13. Today 12-16 we had to take a little more
tail off. You can the picture of Destiny sporting her new look as of
today and as you can see she has the run of the clinic. Trying to get a
picture of her is impossible.

Animal Services and Assistance Programs Inc. is a not-for-profit
organization that provides free food, supplies, services and programs
to the animal welfare community. In the past 2 months we have shipped 6
truckloads of dog and cat food across the US and Puerto Rico with 2
more trucks to be delivered before Christmas. Our mission is to help
rescues and shelters help the animals in their communities. We provide
medical services to animals that are in need of placement to rescues
and shelters but otherwise would not be placeable due to the
prohibitive costs of medical care needed to make them healthy enough to
adopt.

When Destiny is well she will be placed with a local area rescue for adoption until then she will be with a foster home.

Vet bills and supplies for my 2 English Mastiff foster dogs!

I recently took in two foster dogs that were to be put to sleep if they did not find a home immediately. I am working through Dave Ramsey's debt reduction plan and have very little money to use on them, but I felt that I needed to stop two wonderful dogs from losing their life.

Unfortunately both girls are senior citizens for Mastiff's(6-8 yrs old), and both have serious health problems. Libby, the first girl is suffering from Cushings disease and also kidney failure. She needs medication and immediate help from a specialist to start living comfortably. She was kept at a puppy mill for a large part of her life, and now she needs some help! She is also partially blind after suffering with entropic eyelids her whole life and needs surgery to repair them to stop future pain.

Willow is my other beautiful foster girl. She has a torn ligament in her left front leg, and severe athritis in her hips and hind legs. She is also starting to see deterioration in her hind end due to pressure on her spine. She needs surgery on her front leg, supplements and medication for her other problems and time in a rehab facility. This is the sweetest dog you could ever hope to meet and she needs help!

Please if you have the ability to help at all, anything will help! They are limited to only $300 each of care from the rescue I am fostering them for, and they have already surpassed that limit. We need approximately $1,500 to take care of the surgeries, medicine and rehab for these beautiful dogs.

Hi My name is Stephanie fell and I have a friend in dyer need! Here is her brief story

Oakley a 6 yr old American Pit bull has been throughh a rough road since March. In March of this year she tore her ACL(anterior cruciate ligament) while playing in her back yard.. After months of rehab she is still havingg problems with it. To make a long story short about a month ago after swimming to help rebuild the muscles in her ACL leg , she twisted wrong in the yard and preceeded to break her hock on her "good" leg. After weeks of splint and lots of money lost,she was sent to a refferal center after an x-ray revield that the bones were not healing at all. After the consultation the doctor told Sonya and Heather some not so good news. The bones were not healing at all and the only real option was surgery to rebuild the bones. Good news it can be fixed bad news is Sonya and Heather just paid alot of money out for BOTH of ther dogs, Oakley to have her ACL fixed and Yuckers ( the english bull who developed a mammary tumor and has a heart defect) had to be spayed. None the less the surgery to fix her hock is going to cost around $3000 and they just do not have it. Right now Oakley is in a cast for the next 4 weeks to see if the bones will heal but the doctors are not optimistic.. So now My very good friends have to make a very hard decision. To try and get up the money to fix her leg surgically or to put their beloved pet to sleep.
I am asking if anyone cares about animals to please donate any spare change so that we can help Oakley out and have a wonderful LONG life ahead of her! Please help if you can !

Please help Paddie get her ACL fixed!

This is Paddie's whole story:

My golden retriever, Paddie, is four years old and has had
hypothyroidism for three of them. We got her from a family friend when
she was seven weeks old and have enjoyed her company ever since. Her
highest weight was around 120lbs. At this weight, she started getting
arthritis in her hips and the vet switched her food to Science Diet
Large Breed Light. She stayed with this change for around six weeks
until we took her back to the vet and discovered she had lost no
weight. Our veterinarian rechecked her thyroid levels and discovered
her thyroid was not working at all. With this, he put her on thyroid
medication, and changed her food to Prescription Diet R/D. Paddie has
been battling with her weight for almost two years, but, finally, at
her last check-up she weighed 85lbs! We are so proud of her for losing
this weight.

During her battle with her weight, however, we noticed her
arthritis getting worse. The veterinarian, my mother, and I all thought
the arthritis in her hips was getting worse since she was more active
with the weight off. The vet put her on Rimadyl for the pain in her
hips, hoping that it would make it tolerable. After a few weeks,
Paddie's limping had not improved, in fact, it had gotten worse. She
stopped playing and running as much as she had been doing,and had to
rest more and more often on our walks. Her limping on her back legs had
gone from only limping once a week and it barely being noticeable to
limping everyday and very distinct. Another thing we began to notice
was that she would limp harder on the right side than the left.

At our next trip to the veterinarian, we told him about her
getting worse. He had just finished checking her hips,telling us that
she may need x-rays to determine if she had hip disphylasia, when he
thought to check her knees to make sure they were ok. It was when he
checked her right knee that he found the problem.

She has a torn ACL.

The vet determined that she had more than likely torn it while
becoming more and more active when losing her weight. He also told us
that he had not caught it before because of her weight. This diagnosis
was given almost three weeks ago. She desperately needs this surgery as
soon as possible, but we do not have the funds on our own to make it
happen.

The surgery will cost $1200 minimum, though he said that with
larger dogs the surgery usually runs $1500-$1600. My sister and I are
both college students with part-time jobs, and with rent and our other
pets that need care we can hardly save any money. My mother is disabled
and has had both knees replaced, four total knee replacements on her
left knee, with another knee surgery coming up in the fall. My father
does have a full-time job, but a majority of his funds goes to medical
bills, mortgage payments, loan payments, and pet needs.

Our boxer, Teej, is on Prescription Diet W/D because he has a
condition where the urine in his kidneys crystallizes and forms tiny
stones that makes it very hard for him to use the bathroom. Paddie is
on the Science Diet Large Breed Light, and must continue this diet for
her weight, along with her thyroid medication and Rimadyl.

When we first found out she needed surgery as soon as possible, we
called our humane society to see if they were willing to help or could
point us in theright direction. They suggested United Animal Nations,
and also said that if we could not help her soon, that it would be
better to put her down. We cannot bear to do that. Paddie needs fixing,
not euthanizing, or leg amputation.

Paddie is the best dog I've ever had. She thinks she is a lapdog,
still, and loves attention. Her favorite activity is swimming, which
she cannot do right now because it of the pain. She loves the water,
regardless of if the water is in a small kiddie pool from Wal-Mart or
if she is getting to swim laps in a pond or lake! Paddie is one of the
happiest dogs I know and she dances every time she meets someone new!
She loves to run and sniff out critters that roam in the woods behind
our house, and now she cannot do any of this. Her limping has gotten
worse, she cannot run at all anymore, and she is not able to play for
long intervals.

As soon as I have the money to get the surgery done, she will have
it done! I will be posting a copy of the estimate that my vet has given
me for her surgery costs! Also if you want to make a donation with a

Dog hit by car-needs surgery

beautiful dog Blondie was hit by a car on 7/16/07. She was hit very
hard and drug under the car. I'm surprised she is alive. She has broken
her pelvis in many places and needs surgery to walk again. I cannot
afford this surgery. She is a young girl who needs to run and play but
won't be able to do that anymore without this operation. I don't want
my dog to be crippled and confined because of my inability to pay for

Please help with Majors Surgery

Major,
my great pyreneese came to me last year in June, he was ten months old
and in very bad shape, to skinny and his hair was in big mats. Most of
the first months of his life he spend chained up in a way to little
back yard.
With lots of TLC he turned out to be the most wonderfull dog you
would ever wish for. A gentle Giant that lives in the house and enjoys
every minute of it.
And now he tore his Ligaments(ACL) in his knee, not even 2years
old.( We went for a walk on the 5th of July and somebody set of some
fireworks, Major went crazy, he is terrified of loud noise like that.)
The vet told me that we will have to send him to Dallas for surgery.
Nobody in our area can do this surgery on a big dog like my Major.
Right know i have to keep him confined to a very little space so he
cant move around to much. And he just got a little brother that want to
play with him sooooo bad.

Lambchop's Surgery

OK
everyone.....Lambchop had her second and hopefully final surgery!! For
those of you who don't know Lambchop.....she's a 1 1/2 year old 2 1/2
lb chihuahua who was rescued from a puppymill after being attacked by a
large dog and left for 6 weeks with untreated facial injuries. Her
upper jaw had been crushed and she had a severe infection. They closed
the hole that went from the roof of her mouth up into her sinus cavity,
and took out an inch long piece of her upper jaw bone that had broken
off and had been shoved up into her sinus cavity from the bites she
sustained. Then they flushed out her sinuses and sutured her all up.
She has a mouth full of stitches but is healing well and has never once
lost her zest for life :-) She still adores EVERYONE!!!! The bill was
$1700. So I'm begging everyone to PLEASE donate whatever you can to
help.....Lammie will appreciate it!! (and so will I) Thanks!

My puppy needs Hip surgery.

My
puppy is only 5 months old, his a male pittbull , he was born with a
genetic bone disease and hip dysplasia. The vet said he needs sugery
and treatments or I will have to put him to sleep. Im not finacially
capable of paying for his surgery,and i feel his too young to die ,he
is so playfull and he's such a good and sweet dog , he's been house
broken since he was two months old , he loves to kiss and to put his
head on my laps to get pet , please help me keep him alive, he is to

Help me help my kitty 'Flea'

Everyone who knows me knows how much I love my kitty 'Flea'!! He is my pride and joy, the apple of my eye, my little ray of sunshine who brightens my every day... and for those of you who don't know me quite so well, just take a look at his MySpace page at www.myspace.com/fleakitty1 and you'll get the idea!!

Well, the other night, to my horror, as I went to give him a kiss goodbye on my way out the door to go to work, my little baby cried out in pain as I ran my hand down his back! I looked down to see that his tail was swollen to three times it's normal size right at it's base and that it was bent at a funny angle =(

I felt like dying just seeing him like that and instanly felt that I'd failed to protect him and keep him safe... like I was the worst Mommy in the whole world. I know he doesn't blame me, but I feel awful about it anyway =(

Today I took him to the vet and although I couldn't afford to get Xrays done, the veterinarian seemed quite convinced that his tail is not broken as I 'd suspected. He'd actually been bitten by another cat when he got out and ran off for a few hours two nights before that. Apparently it take a few days for a bite to become infected and swell up like that. My poor baby!!

If I thought that money was tight before, I had no idea just how much worse it could get! I spent $150.00 at the vet today and if Flea's condition doesn't improve in the days to come, I will need to come up with another $150.00 for Xrays... not to mention that he needs to get his shots and has yet to be neutered. I've been on the waiting list at the Upland Animal Shelter for free neutering services for about four months now, and they say it's possible I'll get in before the end of the year... but who really knows for sure.

My Vet Hospital charges around $200.00 for that service and they also provide pain medication and after care, which is nice. I'd like to get it done there if I can get enough of you to support my cause here! =)

So here is what I'm asking of you... If you find that my cause is worthy and/or you would just like to help me out with these expenses because you've seen and fallen in love with Flea too, won't you please consider making a pledge to help me meet my goal of raising at least $500.00?

Any anount you can pledge would be greatly appreciated, and get this..... if I fail to raise my minimum amount of $500.00 in pledges before the time is up, noone pays a penny! Only if I reach my goal amount will your pledge be processed. How cool is that?!

Please help Rama have surgery

Rama has a tarsometatarsal luxation of the left hind leg, the bones beneath his hock have seperated and the tendons are

torn. This kind of injury requires the bones to be fused together
to save the leg from amputation. The surgery will be performed
through a rescue org., and to bring him home, I have to pay off the surgery bill before an application is received for him.

"I can't believe this is happening. Where's my mom, my brother?
What kind of place is this? I'm scared and just want to go home," Rama
thought. "My leg hurts so bad and I don't know any of these
two-leggeds. Where are my people," he kept asking, but nobody could
understand him. "What happened to the girl who helped me off the gate,
Thalia she was called," he thought. Later that day Thalia did come
back, after finding out the owner she returned him to had taken him to
the pound insted of the vet. You see, when Rama had jumped the gate,
his foot became wedged between the verticle bars of the 4ft gate, and
the rectangular steel fencing attached to it. Thalia, a neighbor, had
to lift him up to get his foot unstuck as the rest of Rama's body hung
over the gate off the ground. "Oh boy, oh joy," thought Rama when he
saw Thalia coming to get him and hopefully take the pain away. " Why
does my foot hurt so much?", he asked her. Not understanding dog talk,
she just told him everything would get better soon.
At the vets, Thalia found out Rama had a tarsometatarasal
luxation requiring the bones to be fused in that area. She sent out a
call for help and I answered and brought Rama home. Now he and I need
your help as the surgery will cost at least $2,000 and is a sum I can't
afford alone. The pain is gone, but the bones need fusing. "I'm a good
boy, right mom" Rama thought. Yes Rama you are the best!!

Dela's Luxating Patella Surgery

Please
understand that this surgery is MANDATORY for her to live a normal
life. Both back knees are so bad that she has been on an
anti-inflammatory since she was a year old and without the surgery she
will be totally unable to get up and down in another year. She is a
super sweet gal and would make a wonderful pet for a family but no one
will adopt her with her needing this surgery. It is not just your
typical small dog luxating patella but it is to the extent that
arthritis at 3 years old is already setting in and the longer we have
to wait the worse it gets. Our rescue group has been hit hard with many
unexpected expenses in the last few weeks - 6 heartworm positives, a
puppy with a broken jaw, a Jack who had been used as a "bait dog" who
came in with bites all over his legs - he also was heartworm positive
and unfortunately before he could be treated, he had a blood clot break
loose and died. We have a huge bill on Fraser as well. It seems that
poor Dela gets pushed back when all of these emergencies come up but it
has reached point where SHE is our emergency but due to decreased
adoptions, there is no money for this without help. PLEASE open your
hearts for her and the other dogs - every little bit is appreciated and
will go to helping these shelter dogs looking for their chance to lead
a wonderful life for the remainder of their lives. Thanks from the

Vet Bill for Trixie's leg surgery

Our
little dog, Trixie, got out of the back yard last Monday night June 30,
because when Mary left, her arms were loaded with laundry and she could
not close the gate securely fast enough. Not unusual, but Trixie
usually returns very quickly, after making a quick tour of the
neighborhood. She did not return as usual, so I searched, and found she
had been struck by a car in front of my next door neighbor's house. We
are a family of four, my daughter Mary and her two children and I.
After months of unemployment, Mary, had found work about a month ago,
and we were recovering from serious financial depletion. I am a retired
teacher, living on very limited income. So when our little friend was
hurt, it was a serious blow to all of us, emotionally, and financially.

Trixie is about 3 or 4 years old, was a throw-away puppy, that we
took in. She is an excellent "mouser' and watch dog. She is rather
small, but very energetic, and well-behaved. We never spent much time
training her, as she just seemed to sense what we want her to do. The
oly "bad" behavior she indulges in is swiping some of the dry cat food
from the cat feeding dish if we aren't looking. She never chewed up
shoes, or went to the bathroom inside the house, unless there was no
one here to open the door for her. She surely did not deserve to be
injured by one of the young pick-up truck drivers who use out street on
week-ends and during summer vacation for a race-way. We have asked for
better police patrol, but our force is perpetually understaffed. So,
even since the high price of gasoline has somewhat slowed the local
teen traffic, we know that there is still one driver who is not
deterred from driving too fast in a residential area by injuring a
beloved pet.

Our little dog had a pelvic bone that is fractured in three places.
The vet says these breaks will heal themselves, but the leg is knocked
out it its socket, and just below the ball joint there is a break that
needs surgical repair. Our budget is so tight, but we will postpone
many needs and even paying some bills, in order to save our pet from
pain and perhaps euthanasia. I would rather have her put down that see
her suffer. However, we love her very much, and we are all
broken-hearted at the prospect of having to end her life to preserve
her from a painful existence.

She is very determined to return to normal! Even when under the
influence of pain medication, she tries to stand on all four of her
legs. I have her confined to a bed on a foam cushion between my own bed
and the wall, and surrounded by barriers to prevent too much movement.
However, she one night this week seemed to be trying to climb into my
bed! She is in good health except for the injuries in this :accident."
She has a good appetite, and we have kept her hydrated with a dropper
when she could not lap water on her own.

Trixie has had one litter of puppies, three very lively, smart
little ones who were adopted quickly. We planned to have her spayed
soon, but now any funds for that are going to this surgery. We have
applied for aid from United Animal Nation, however, and the perhaps the
spaying can be done at the same time as the leg surgery if that
application is approved.

We need some help here to save this good little pet friend. I have
a car that I can sell, and a small rent house that is up for sale, but
income from those assets is not yet available. My credit is stretched
to the limit from supporting the family during Mary's unemployment
period. The little dog is in pain and great distress now, and she is
definitely worth the sacrifice. Please help us with whatever is
possible.

I am seeking financial assistance so my dogs can recieve medical treatment. Dixie (St. Bernard/Rottie mix) needs hip replacement surgery. Dixie is now recovering for Lyme's disease.

Priscilla needs treatment for a collapsed disk in her spine that has caused her to lose mobility on her left side.

I do not have the means to pay for the medical care they need. Both dogs are both taking medication to control their symptoms but need more evasive treatment.

I am employed and my partner is unemployed. He are barely able to pay our household bills and the veterinary bills for the dogs. We need financial assistance so our dogs can recieve the treatment they need.

Please Help

The tumor in his mouth is growing at a alarming rate.

Thanks to the kind people who help those in need here at Fundable,I was able to get Junior in to see a Vet.

I thank you people from the bottom of my heart. All of you are angels.

The Bad News......Junior has TWO cancerous tumors. One in his mouth and one on his anus

The vet is most concerned with the one on his anus,she fears it may
grow and cut off his anal passage,making it difficult if not impossible
for him to deaficate.
She would like to remove that one,problem is she thinks that if
going to put him under for operation then both tumors should be
removed.The tumor in his mouth is growing larger seems almost daily.

At his age the anathesia has to be VERY carefully administerd and that is what drives the cost up.

The operation will cost app. $1000.00 or so. I can handle some of the cost but to get this done soon I need some help.

I am hoping that once again some angels will help Junior. I am asking for $700.00 once I get that then I can schedule with

the vet a operation for him. If all goes well he could live a few more years as he deserves all and more.

other items the vet found ...he has body warts that are normal for a dog his age. no treatment needed.

She did discover he has a bad ear infection and that is being treated.

Also, he got a haircut to remove about 2 pounds of hair and now he looks half his size but is Soooo much more

comfortable in this Texas heat.

I am trying to find more work so I can help more with his expenses but times are very tight and not having much luck.

I am a disabled individual on SSI, who has been struggling monthly with
what the system provides. I have a wonderful 12 year old companion
kitty, Bandit, who has been diabetic for the last 2 and 1/2 years. He
has been up-chucking his food every now and again recently, and needs
to be checked out by a Vet. [He's previous one is no longer with us].

I
very much need your kind financial assistance in being able to get
Bandit a thorough Glucose panel [involves all day testing], complete
blood panel and tox screen, with liver enzymes, UA testing, possible
fecal testing; and whatever else a new Veterinarian would require, plus
medications.

Bandit means the world to me, and is more than just
a pet. . .he's therapeutic value is invaluable, and truly is beyond
description.

Bandit is my Baby; and because of huge Emergency
Vet Hospital Bill [over %3,500], I often due without basic necessities,
to make sure he is taken care of, and the huge monthly payment is made.
It is hard, what with two mortgage payments, Prop. Taxes, Prop Ins.,
Car Ins., meds that are not covered...and the list goes on.

Bottom
line is to get my Baby seen and evaluated; re-adjust his insulin if
necessary, a 'good' special diet that agrees with his tummy, and all
the other things he needs to manage his diabetes, so there will be more
happy, healthy, mischievous years left in my BBB![Big Beautiful Boy]

Dear People who we don't know but implore for help:

We are the Colon family in Long Branch NJ.  Our beloved PitBull
love machine, Boo Boo, who loves bunnies and birds and kitties and us
(and goodies) somehow hurt her cervical disc(s) in her spine, thus pinching
a vital nerve of her left leg.  We aren't 100% sure because she suddenly 
appeared injured and $1000.00 we didn't have but have spent later, we're told 
she needs an MRI and possibly surgery.  It has been weeks and we have tried 
medicines and crate rest but her left leg goes limp.  at times, she 
can "semi walk" but walks on the knuckle/joint above her paw.  Her 
paw and or toes get curled in and sometimes, she falls!

We have to carry her outside to pee and poo and she's not allowed
to walk on her own.  She's 50ish pounds and I anm 5 feet tall but I struggle
and carry her because I love her like a child.  My husband has a bad knee
and a hernia (we have no health insurance) and he carries her, too!
That's how much we love her!  We have cried and cried and neeeeed
your help!

My husband had surgery in Feb and just went back to work in
March.  He works at the Olive garden (for 15 years) and only makes
$14.90/hr. and never gets 40 hours but rather 35-36, somewhere in there.

I just started to work for a new job in Jan. 2008 and was let go
on April 20 because the company I worked for lost the contract with 
the hospital I was employed by.  I have no job but have been online
day and night.  I have an Associates Degree as a Human Service Professional
and in NJ without your Bachelors or Masters, you cannot get licensed
in socialwork, hence; most hobs only want to pay me $12/13/hr.
With $1300 rent, $125 budget electric, $110 gas budget, $311 car 
insurance, $10 AOL, $200 cell phones a month (have adhd teen)
and an old, 8 cylinder car, we really struggle and juggle.

We keep a very simple eye, don't have cable, never go out and have
a teenager and a menagerie of pets who we care for.  We are not 
eccentric collectors and out of responsibility in our natures as well as 
finances, we don't and won't have anymore pets. (2 dogs, 4 cats, 3 birds
a rabbit and a guinea pig)  (Boo Boo is one of our 2 dogs.)

We have never asked for your help but we're beside ourselves.

We found Boo Boo our beloved babydog (She's 7 in July.)
when we lost our baby daughter (I was 5.5 months pregnant.)
and we cannot even imagine her having to be euthanized.

PLEASE! PLEASE HELP HER!  BEING BEYOND WORDS GRATEFUL

Special Needs Kittens in New Jersey need Loving Home

Toby and Lucy are approximately 8 weeks old. They were both born

missing a portion of one of their hind legs. They get around well by

hopping. Toby is missing only his toes, but it seems to be painful

for him to put any weight on the rest of his limb. He may require

another amputation in the future. For the meantime, he just hops

around like Lucy. Lucy is missing her leg right below the knee. She

is slower to get around than Toby, but gets along just fine.

Toby is the adventurous brother. He is very curious and was always

the first kitten to figure things out. He learned how to eat dry

food when he was 3 weeks old! He also loves attention and has a

mighty purr!! He is also extremely patient and has a wonderful

temperament.

Lucy is the cuddler. She developed a tad slower than her siblings

because of her more significant disability. Because of this, she was

always sitting in my lap. Whenever I walk into their room, she looks

up at me with the cutest face that is begging me to sit down so she

can crawl into my lap. She is the sweetest girl with a calm and

loving personality.

Toby and Lucy need a family who will love them for who they are.

They need someone to constantly inspect their limbs to make sure they

don't develop sores that could lead to an additional amputation.

They also need a family that is financial able and willing to pay for

any additional surgeries if it becomes necessary. These two kittens

are precious and full of energy. They will make a wonderful addition

to any family!

My family had gotten some kittens and we didn't get along very well so they gave me up. I am extremely talkative and would love to have someone to chat with. Cherokee and Cobb county were working together to help
this guy before his time was up. He was turned in as a stray and, given
his age and blindness, no one - rescue group or public - was looking to
save him. Yet, something was special about this sweet soul and said he
wasn't ready to die. So, Susan, Director of Training, and Bill, one of
our many awesome volunteers, pulled him from the county just hours
before he was to be euthanized. Mo was transported immediately to our
vet, North Roswell, for a thorough check-up. Mo is in excellent health!
We immediately put Mo into a foster home where he is receiving the
special care and attention he needs and deserves. His foster mom
writes: "Mo is a confident, sprightly little guy who does not let his
blindness stop him from exploring and getting around. He listens
carefully for sounds and is very responsive when called. He loves to be
carried and seems to be happiest being in his human's lap. He is
energetic and likes to play. He weighs about 5 pounds and is estimated
to be 12 years old. The vet said that little dogs live long lives so he
will probably give someone companionship for quite a few years."
Though Mo is being cared for in a great foster home, he needs a
permanent home where he can settle and live forever.

The intake team at OPP monitors the county shelters and
euthanasia lists with the goal of rescuing animals before their
“death date”. Intake team member, Sandy Adcock visits and
monitors Douglas County. This is where she met “Emmitt” who
had been caught in a trap and turned in as a stray. Sandy was concerned
about Emmitt surviving another week in the county shelter because he
was starting to sniffle. If the county believes a dog to be sick, they
are more likely to euthanize. Sandy kept that from happening! Upon
Emmitt arriving to OPP and receiving a bully rub from one of our
awesome volunteers, we discovered that “Emmitt” is actually
an “Emmie”! This girl just wants to please! Even though
some cruel person totally cut off her ears and half her tail, she is
sweet and loving to every human friend she meets!

An important part of Our Pal's Place mission is to provide educational services to the community with the goal of ending the killing of animals in county shelters due to pet overpopulation. Part of our education includes the importance of spay-neuter. A fact that our Community Outreach Lead, Dee McGowan, provides is 10,000 babies are born on average every day and 70,000 puppies and kittens are born every day. This means that each baby born must have 7 puppies/kittens in order to provide homes for the animals vs euthanize due to overpopulation. A female Collie mix was not spayed and had a litter of 5 pups who now need homes. The father is a Husky mix. These pups are super,super cute!! They have been in a foster home since birth, are well socialized with cats, dogs and kids, and are almost house trained. Cowboy is the biggest of the litter and more dominant than the other siblings. He is quite a cute character! Because he was always in the middle (literally) of his litter mates, we never noticed that he was blind. After the majority of his litter mates were adopted and he was moved into a new room in our facility, we noticed he ran (literally) into walls and other objects. His blindness explains why he barks more when he is alone...he is calling for companionship and help. Cowboy is amazingly smart and very resilient. He does not allow his blindness to hinder his puppiness! Please come meet this cute guy!

Here is what Douglas County Volunteer Sherri sent Intake Team members about Sniffles: A really special guy that they are trying to get into rescue if possible...he is basically missing his nose and some of his upper jaw/front teeth. He seems to do okay in spite of it. The staff doesn't want to give up on him and are willing to hold off on putting him down if they can find a group that takes in special needs guys...they are calling him "Sniffles" as he does snort a bit. Does OPP work with special needs/have any connections or do you know of a group that DC can contact for him? I'm attaching photos...it's a bit shocking at first but he's such a sweet guy...a young adult Shar Pei mix that came in as a stray. He's been with someone for a while obviously as his weight was okay and he's not a puppy (he can eat wet food). He's afraid of being on leash at the moment but I'm going to see if I can get him to walk with me tomorrow or over the weekend. Sniffles is now in a great OPP foster home! We are appreciative of all of the public and fellow-rescue group support we have received. Sniffles has a great life ahead of him!

This is not a request for help...it's a request for awareness. These limits on how many animals you can have is yet another reason so many animals are sitting on death row, scared and lonely in shelters instead of their own homes. When you own or rent and have the permission of the landlord you should have the right to have as many animals as you can properly care for. There are no restrictions on how many children you can have...why are furry members of a family limited?

This man took in his son's dogs while is son went overseas on deployment and now he risks losing those dogs to the shelter because of these limits.

STORY UPDATE: 4/17/08 County Officials Delay Action In Dog Dispute

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Henry Carroll got into trouble with the county when he agreed to look after his son's two dogs.

And it's turning into a dog war.

Carroll got into trouble with the county when he agreed to look after his son Adam's two dogs. Carroll's son is overseas fighting in Iraq.

The soldier is scheduled to return home in December, and his father says he is determined to make sure that when his son returns from his tour of duty, the dogs are waiting for him.

Carroll already had three dogs of his own. With five dogs, the county said he had two dogs too many.

“If my son's in Iraq, I can't watch his dogs according to the county,” Carroll said.

The county says with five dogs Henry's running a kennel, which he is not licensed to do. When he asked the county to clarify the definition of a kennel, he says he got several different answers.

“I said, 'I want to see the law I’m breaking; show it to me.'”

He said a county official gave him an ordinance, which defines a kennel as any place with eight or more where dogs or cats are fed, sheltered and watered.”

But he says another county document sent to him defines a kennel as any premises where four or more dogs are kept commercially or as pets.

Carroll got the Army to write a letter saying two of the dogs belonged to his son, but county officials didn't buy it.

They said, “Since Adam didn't sign it, it really might not be valid because it was signed by his platoon leader.”

Carroll now takes his fight to keep all five dogs to the Cumberland County Board of Adjustment. They meet Thursday night.
Meanwhile, he said if he's forced to give up any dogs it will be two of his animals. He said he's rather do that than break a promise to his son.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.--- A Fayetteville man who wanted his day in court so that he could keep five dogs in his house, including two that belong to his son who is fighting in Iraq, didn't get a chance to plead his case. But he didn’t lose his dogs either.

Henry Carroll went face-to-face with Cumberland County and the county blinked.

Before he ever got a chance to utter a word at a public hearing Thursday night, county officials said they'd need more time to research the situation.

As a result, the county said no dogs will be removed from his premises for the time being.

County officials decided to defer action after the county attorney said he'd need more time to clarify issues between several county agencies.

“I didn't expect that,” said a stunned Carroll.

The ordinance limiting dog ownership to three animals has been on Cumberland County's books since 1972, but a shelter operator who was one of a number of people who came to support Carroll said that law's no good.

“It's a badly written law and similar laws have been held unconstitutional in many other states,” said Linden Spear, director of "The Haven" animal shelter. “We hope the county realizes it's a badly written nuisance law and repeals it immediately.”

The controversy started when Carroll's son, Adam asked his dad to watch his two dogs while he was deployed overseas in Iraq with the 101^st Airborne. Henry Carroll’s landlord said that he had no problem with that.

“He asked me if he could do it when he found out his son was going overseas,” said Mike Urian. “At the time I didn't see any violation. I didn't think the county ordinance would count possession as a violation. I thought ownership would be a violation.”

So for now, Carroll goes about caring for the dogs and waits for his next public hearing.

“I’m relieved.,’’ he admitted. “The burden ain't lifted yet, but I got more time to prepare for it now.”

Peggy Sue the Bulldog only has 3 legs and needs a special cart

Peggy Sue was returned to Lone Star Bulldog Rescue because her family just could not give enough time to her. She only has 3 legs, but that doesn't stop her from trying to keep up with her bully foster family. She tries to hop and play in the yard, but since she has to put all of her weight on her only good shoulder, it is at risk of going out under her weight. She is such a sweet girl and very loving that we would hate to have to put her down sometime in the future, just because we could not afford to buy her a cart.We have found a cart that we can strap her in so she can have some relief from the constant pressure of trying to get around. With the constant influx of rescue dogs we are not even able to keep our heads above water with all of our vet bills so this is not even feasible right now. Please help Peggy Sue, she deserves to run and play!!

Sally's Chemotherapy and Treatments for Osteosarcoma

Sally, is a Border Collie/Samoyed mix. She is vivacious and playful. She loves all people and all animals especially her wonderful brothers and sisters: 2 other dogs and four cats and a bird. All rescues She loves her mommy most of all.

Sally started to limp about four weeks ago. I took her to the veterinarian when the limp was getting worse not better and got the terrible news that she had osteosarcoma (bone cancer) on the upper part of her left front leg. The vet says her lungs and other organs are clear riight now but that this is a highly aggressive kind of cancer and her leg and shoulder had to be amputated immediately. She had her surgery on January 17, 2007 and started her first session of chemotherapy on February 3.

I borrowed all I could out of my 401K for care of my Sally which covered her surgery and the first chemo treatment. February 7th I lost my job of 21 years and am desperate to get the funds together for what she needs to live. Pleaase help me to help my girl to have her chance to die of old age instead of cancer.

Now after all this I found out yesterday that my bird Tidbit has cancer also....Please make a donation to save both their lives..
